I'm looking forward to when we sell Gags to Lazio this summer and immediately turn our attention to hating on either Vecino or Godin.

I would like to suggest Vecino already gets that hate. The only reason it has died down is because he is injured, cannot play and therefore can not do us any damage.

The sad thing for us is he will in all likelihood be here next season doing the same meaningless shit he did prior to getting injured. His injury has really hampered our ability to offload him in the summer. The further Vecino stays away from the pitch the better. We may as well get a chicken from Spalletti's winery to play in his place.

During my ten years I've been on this forum (aside: Vas, I want my badge) there's this incredibly predictable vicious cycle that takes place annually. The forum will find a whipping boy it collectively decides to hate. Every match thread in which the player plays will be littered with comments bashing the player, regardless of performance. The pitchforks are out in full throttle. Eventually, we sell the player and there's a period of calm before the mob finds their next whipping boy and the vicious cycle repeats.

In 2011, it was everyone bitching and moaning about Pandev. In 2012, Chivu. 2013 through 16 feel like a blur, but I believe Guarin and Scheletto were two common ones. In more recent years, the disdain has pivoted towards Kondogbia, then Candreva, and now Gagliardini.

Now, you might be thinking: well yes, all of the players I just mentioned were useless twats, and that I generally agree with you on. However, are they through their individual performances costing us more than one or two games a season? I'd argue no.

I'm looking forward to when we sell Gags to Lazio this summer and immediately turn our attention to hating on either Vecino or Godin.

There's levels to this though:

Level 1 is just the typical, in the heat-of-the-moment stuff, usually during the game. "Fucking Gagliardini!", "Gags has been shit today", "fucking Candreva can't do anything right" etc.

Level 2 is when people make the effort to write a semi-literate post or analysis criticising a player. I've certainly done this a lot because I find it interesting to observe a player, their strengths, weaknesses and tendencies. I think most people stay around Levels 1 & 2.

e.g During the game you post "fucking Vecino :palm:" (LVL 1 stuff) Then afterwards you go to his thread :D and rant about how he lacks the technical skill to be consistent for a team aiming to challenge for the scudetto, and that without 2 clutch goals, his Inter career has been largely disappointing etc. (LVL 2)

Then there's Level 3, largely perpetrated by nutjobs like Nyall, that pringles dickhead, occasionally brehme etc. these dudes will go completely out of their way or against the flow of conversation to criticise a player out of nowhere.

e.g. Lukaku might score a great header and brehme will ludicrously claim that having analyzed the angle of Lukaku's forehead movement he actually meant to pass it but it accidentally ended up as a goal :einstein:

Or perhaps we play a game and Gagliardini was mediocre. Most people just roll their eyes, post the occasional "fuck gags" in the match thread and leave it at that. Nyall then goes to the Gagliardini thread to specifically flame him :D

Better yet, Gagliardini DOESN'T play a game, but Nyall still goes to the Gagliardini thread to flame him and say look how much better we were without him :awyeah:

For the record, I enjoy it all, don't take it too personally. I often find myself laughing therapeutically at the frustrations expressed. Honestly, when Inter are playing like trash and you read funny comment like "I hate Nagatomo", it makes the experience so much more endurable. Some of the lvl 3 stuff is unnecessary and can get tiresome if it's persistent and if I'm not in the mood to entertain it but it's all part of it I guess.

The hate is unwarranted yes. But Gagliardini simply plays at the wrong level. I've always been Vecino guy when it comes to these two and my argumentation is Vecino delivers more often in key matches (in his role) and Gagliardini is usable only against real shitters. Of course optimally neither of these two should be at Inter.

I really hope we could sell Gags for cash but I find it hard to believe we could pull that off.

If I'm to choose between Gagsy and Vecino, I'd rather not choose at all.

Just as Obama won a Nobel prize for not being Bush, Gagliardini gets the hate for not being Eriksen.

I agree with above points, but I think the Gagliardinies and Vecinos of the world contribute a lot more to the game than we’re able to appreciate. For one thing, whenever Inter has deployed it’s “A-Team” midfield in the past decade, it’s invariably been overrun. Conversely, there’s been many games where we’ve managed to overpower some formidable midfields, with the likes of Vecino/Gagliardini on the pitch, who seemingly doing very little to contribute. Why is this?

I think if they perform their roles well at times, it’s less noticeable. If they obstruct crucial passing lanes; there’s no need for majestic tackles. If the pressure they apply leads to a rushed pass with Skriniar winning the ball, we praise Skriniar. If we overrun Lazio’s midfield, it’s because SMS is an overrated shit cunt etc.

For example, Gagliardini’s pressuring leads to 6.15 turnovers every 90 minutes. Is this a telling stat? Probably not, but I think it’s these kind of contributions that we don’t see.

I’m not claiming that either one of them is some positional genius or that I see the game in an extra dimensions while you plebs focus on “actual contributions”. From the perspective of overall midfield performance though, regardless of the coach, our most desirable midfield is always overrun, while we’ve somehow managed to dominate more technical and numerous midfields with Vecino/Gags.

Right now, gag gives Conte something that no one else does,

His job is to disrupt our opponents' play. He does that fairly well, and everything else fairly poorly.

It's very likely that he will be a starter in the semi-final and the possible final. UNLESS sensi somehow manages to be fit for the final, which gazzetta today suggests is possible.

They actually suggest he may even play some minutes against shakhtar.

I can understand/accept his lack of skill, the 5 ft mispass, in front of the goal miss etc
But i can’t understand how he decided to launch 100mph backpass to his own goal near his own box

At least in footballing terms, he is a donkey.

Football is probably the only field where you can be so mediocre (or average at best) in your job and yet make millions.

However, he's doing his best, and I guess you can't ask much more than that from a player.

He is definitely limited, and I look forward to sensi finally being able to play again.

I have no time for Level 1 or 2. You can call me whatever you want but the fact remains, I'm not wrong about any of them. There hasn't been a single player that I've called out, that's gone on to be successful here.

Life is way too fucking short. Fuck all those dick heads, Candreva, Gagliardini, Kondogbia, Joao Mario, Kuzmanovic, Zarate, etc. We hosted all of them and they brought us nothing. No titles, no respect, no final appearances, and year after year after year of our seasons being done in March and mediocrity on top of mediocrity. And this year, this dumbass cost us a Scudetto.

Gagliardini like those before him is the embodiment of what I hate about this club, and he was brought here by the cunt I hate the most in this club - Ausilio.

I have always wondered this, as someone who by no means has a vast tactical knowledge of the game, what precisely does he do well? He is an absolute abomination moving forward, the only time he completes a pass is when it goes backwards, and his only semi redeeming quality I can see is he can occasionally win the ball, but then he just gives it right back 90% of the time. Eriksen may be washed but at least I can still see glimpses of his quality and what he can do frequently. Is there something in Gags game I'm missing and that's why he always plays? Serious question. Because to me it seems like Conte only plays him because he doesn't want to go 3-4-1-2 with Eriksen.

he's not bad at disrupting opposition play tbh. he works hard and focuses on getting into the right positions and tackling. the probem is that often, when he does disrupt, the turnover ball is lost quite quickly too.

we dont really have any disrupting midfielders - vecino, barella sort of, and gags are the go to guys.

When he plays, watch his position on things like the counter attack, you'll ALWAYS see him jostling the opposition and tackling, shirt pulling, etc.

And he has the knack of getting into good positions. That's one thing with Vecino as well.

We may complain about how poor they are with ball, or even finishing. But that gets noticed for the sheer number of positions they get into.

He is doing his job, which is to defend well. He is the best we have atm, but he is doing that great recently which is part of the reason why we're doing so well defensively. Offensively it's the same story.

Might not be good enough to keep him next season though with the coming transfers. Inter's bench will get much better next year it seems.

His job is to help us concede 1 goal in last 7 games.

He does that very well and that's why Eriksen does not play. Offensively though... my eyes bleed.
