He has good passing skills, remember his Moriero style pass which one of our strikers couldn't convert to goal, I don't remember who exactly, probably Lautaro. There were other occasions where he created decent opportunities to score and many of them didn't result in scoring due to our attackers. I am not saying he is a first team player but he isnot a useless player either like Vecino is.

Nah, I refuse to accept Gagliardini as first choice backup anymore. Dude was my favourite player when he first arrived, but since then it's been 1 good game out of 5, usually against trash like Samp and Genoa.

If he plays Wednesday he'll look out of his depth and clumsy, just as he always does against good opposition. I'm not saying this to be overly negative or pessimistic, it's just that that's been the norm for the last 3 years, and I don't think that trend will reverse when he'll be tasked with doubling up on either Hazard, Brandt or Sancho.

100% agreed. He simply doesn't offer enough.

Some might say I'm being greedy or unrealistic. After all, it was Gagliardini who reacted quickest to Biraghi's corner being cleared, slid in and got the ball to Brozovic who set up Lautaro for our opener vs Sassuolo. It was a great bit of ball recovery. He then played a great first-touch pass to get Lautaro 1v1 with the keeper too. He actually had a very solid first half. But its still not enough for me. Why? Where was he when we were getting torn to shreds in the last 20 minutes? How much defensive strength or attacking threat did he insert when he came on at Camp Nou?

I can't blame a guy who his natural limitations but quietly going about ones business is simply not enough at this level. We need game-changers. See his incredible 1v1 miss at juve last season. Gagliardini is simply not that (except against teams from Genoa). Our first choice backup needs to be someone who is either on par with our starting midfield trio, or at least, offers a strong alternative skillset - not someone who is a colossal drop of quality.

But if other clubs do want him, i'd sell, but not for less than 25 mils. He is deffo worth that, in todays market. We cannot find better DM/CM for that money.

I think it was vagisilios or n4l who said about Dalbert/Joao Mario that "these are the kinds of trash that teams like Fiorentina buy for €12m, not €25m"

Personally I find that statement incredibly accurate. Pulgar moved to Fiorentina for €10m, whereas we bought Gagliardini for €28m, 3 years ago, off 15 good games..

If you asked whether I'd take a swap right now between Pulgar and Gagliardini, I'd snap your hand off then give myself a disgusting handjob with it.

Gagliardini's market value is at most, €15m or so. It certainly hasn't increased or maintained during his time at this club.

Replacing Gagliardini with better player is a must but not a top priority now or even for next season. We have weaker positions to strengthen. First one is to get rid of Vecino and Valero and acquire a quality midfielder. Bar Lukaku and Lautaro we don't have other fine options for attack. Sanchez is done most probably and Politano is shit so far. We gonna need two signings in that department. IMO we have to upgrade our fullbacks for next season as well - two more players for left and right. So, considering all of above mentioned reasons, i think Gags will be ok-ish as 5th choice midfielder.

Saying that i don't mind selling him if a good offer comes.

With a great coach, Gagliardini is an ok player.

Spalletti ruined him, Conte recovering him.

One of the most overrated turds this forum have seen. As fast as he gets a decent game people go crazy for him. Will never reach Inter-level, CL-level or scudettifighting level. Gtfo

Useful backup, can do a job and has a decent all around game. He allows conte to keep our shape, which is extremely valuable when you consider sensi is hurt and vecino is a garbage man.

I do not think he gets enough credit and I also think that some posters either do not know, or do not want to acknowledge the role he plays in the team. Gagliardini is not in the team to make defence splitting passes or play an advanced midfield role. He is a spoiler and his role is to breakup our opponents play and bring his teammates into the game. I thought he did well this morning against Dortmund. In the last two matches, he has scrapped, fought and worked to help the team (on some occasions in very tight spaces) with little to no recognition of his contribution.

He is slow and an average passer. BUT, having a big body in the midfield that can win a header and a 50/50 isn’t the worst thing when you have two smaller players in there.

It was curious that he basically hugged the byline whenever we had possession. Seems like Conte had ordered him to cover the right wing so Candreva had full freedom to advance.

He was ok overall. Obviously we're better off with Sensi but I'd still take Gagliardini over Vecino.

I thought he mostly drifted out if the game in the 2nd half but Dortmund focused a lot of their attacks down their right. Did well to win some important balls at the end - one should have led to Hummels getting a 2nd yellow and the other led to the goal.

We still need another midfielder in January. Gagliardini can cover in midfield in the smaller games but for the biggest games it would be great to have someone better. The issue with Vecino is that he can only bring something in very specific situations when the game is open and in the last 20 minutes of a match.

Although I can't remember the last time Vecino had a good game that he started. Lazio play open and Vecino looked terrible against them. He's also not very good against smaller teams as he brings nothing to the table in those matches.

Gagliardini is like D'Ambrosio - generally fine. However, once you reach or aim for the highest margins of competition, their shortcomings are notable and limiting to the team.

However one wishes to analyse Gagliardini's strengths, weaknesses and the performance of his duties, I think ultimately one will reach the conclusion that there are much better players in every category. I am not even speaking of world class names. I would prefer any one of Veretout, Pulgar, De Roon, Nandez or Rincon to Gagliardini for example. Maybe even Duncan.

Realistically, one must wonder whether Gagliardini would make the cut if the bar was raised - and we must definitely raise the bar if we are to compete at those highest tiers.

In any case though, I'm happy for the guy as long as he continues to contribute what he can. This is arguably the best he can do, and it's good enough for now. The key to a good backup is reliability (having a backup you can't rely on, like Santon, is pure hell) so Gagliardini can't afford to drop from this level at all.

Naturally, having better players in the squad makes it easier for more "humble" players like Gagliardini too. I can see him doing a job here next season as well, like he is this season. But with or without him, we need better midfielders.

His positioning today was basically Conte's tactic to ensure we don't suffer in midfield cos of him, and increase our threat ahead by having Candreva further forward.

He had great game yesterday. I thought in the first half he was our best midfielder. He will never be quality enough to be a starter, but as i've said before, him as 5th or 6th choice, especially when you need strength in the midfield, he is ideal.

Thought he played well if we are gonna criticize him when he's poor we need to praise him when he plays well.
