You were the one talking about cheap buys. I just said that we invested. Cheap buys and expensive buys add up to a lot of money each summer so the statement 'very little investment' is incorrect.

Go and read my post again. I didn't claim the names you mentioned were expensive.

Can't wait for his next whine about the lack of transfer funds :)

Mancini complaining about clubs not playing Italians... Meanwhile, he was never concerned with playing Italians when coaching Inter.

Well he did insist on playing Favalli 50 games a season to be fair.

Also don't forget he gave up two of our best young players in Ljajic and Telles to play Eder and Santon, arguably the best Italian players in the past 30 years. Grande :proud:

Started well with Italy....:work:

Can't see that partnership lasting very long. Mancio was a solid if unspectacular club manager during his earlier years but he's always had difficulty navigating the world of knock out fixtures. Assuming of course that the Azzurri make Euro 2020. The talent level is a bit lacking these days.

Yeah, Ljajic went on to warm the bench for mighty Torino and when were Eder and Santon surefire starters for us?

Come to think of it we barely had a solid 11 that season, Mancini kept rotating never settling on a first 11.

Really don't want to go down the whole Mancini rabbit hole again but I insist that what happens to a player post-Inter is largely irrelevant - or at the very least, not as relevant, compared to how they played while here. That is the criteria we should work with.

Fact is, Ljajic had some great, great games for us and was a leader on the pitch. We didn't see any kind of the petulance from his Fiorentina days, and he was just 24 years old and something like €9-11m to redeem. We spent more than that on a 29 year old Eder who, in addition to having a very mediocre Inter career after a horrid first 6 months, deprived us of Ljajic's creativity, technique and the fluidity he provided. And replaced that with Eder's great.. running? Diving?

Same goes for Telles. Who cares what he did after he left. For that matter he's actually doing great at Porto by all accounts. But he was very solid here, 2nd on my list (after Cancelo) for best performing fullbacks since Maicon. Like Ljajic, he was young and cheap, but instead we blew money on others like Erkin, Santon and Ansaldi who combined, had less good games than Telles in his short Inter career.

If a player plays well here for a season, and his loan is redeemed, you generally have to rely on them to continue that level of performance. That is after all, why you redeem them. If Ljajic couldn't reach those levels again at Torino, sure, that's on him. But it really doesn't detract from the concept that A) he performed well here and B) if he was redeemed, we could have arguably expected him to continue performing well.

Nope. Ljajic was starter for Torino unless he was not fit, and got almost the same goals/assists as Perisic. At a mighty Torino, yes.

I swear I have explained this ten times on this forum, to the same people.

Some concepts just don’t go through.

I have no right to fully analyze or criticize Mancini here since I’ve watched only the last 15 minutes of Italy-Portugal due to having to play a football game at the same time, but I couldn’t stop wtfing in those little minutes that I’ve watched and wondering how does the nation of Baresi and Maldini perform so badly defensively as a unit. This is amateur stuff. Look at the Italian’s positioning on the goal. What was that all about? I understand that Italy’s lacking major talents but they still have enough to not play this BAD as a team. I can’t judge Mancini’s coaching atm but I won’t be surprised with him.

I know a lot of people don't like him on this forum (mainly because of comments post-Inter), but in the state Italy are now, Gasperini would have been a much better option. It's not as if Mancini is going to build something or get Italy to compete for the Euros. If they want someone to give the young players a change and make them gel together, Gasp would have done a better job. Not sure if he'd leave Atalanta though, but he probably would for the national team.

Every Inter fan, except Blue9 and Toninu, knows this will be an absolute disaster for Italy. Mancini can't make transfers so there's no way this team is doing anything. Will probably be worst than Ventura's reign in all honesty. Football will be shit and he will find every excuse under the sun for the failure (except his ability to coach).

Congrats again to Mancini though for getting ANOTHER fat contract; like always, will probably get fired before the end of the tenure and get paid out his millions.

I disagree. It really can't be possibly worse than Ventura. I think Mancini is infinitely more likely to qualify this team for a WC. Mancini generally stays out of his players way; he won't be dropping Insigne to CDM like Ventura did. I'm choosing not to judge Mancini until the Euro qualifiers; this Nations League BS is the time for experimentation.

Will we attack without tactics? Yes. Will we play too many defensive midfielders? Probably. Will it be as embarrassing as Ventura? Not possible.

I liked Ljajic, he really worked hard for the shirt and also had great technical ability, if I had to choose between him and Eder I would choose the former that being said, I don't think he was a worldbeater who could change our fortunes but he was a different kind of player who we didn't have in our squad and could've been useful

It seems that every summer due to FFP the club needs to make a decision on how it's going to spend a limited budget. For example the summer we signed Ljajic was the summer we had to let go of Shaqiri because we wanted Perisic, Telles didn't get enough game time to judge looks like he's doing well at Porto but we've seen players do well there and flop tremendously here.

Here's a good question did Ausilio every loan someone with just an option not an obligation to buy and keep him?

Santon (kinda...ok not really)

Can't think of anyone. The last one that comes to mind is Guarin, but Branca was still there then.
