I think the logic is to get someone before everyone really really knows we need someone there, and then Perisic becomes available as an attacker.

I actually think a midfielder should be our biggest priority.
We may look for one if Sensi is leaving, but central midfielder was never our priority. Only if someone left and there were three candidates (Vecino, Vidal and Sensi). I cannot expect anything more than a cheeky loan deal for some average guy.

This is his first real injury. Before that he missed 4 games cause of injuries in 4 seasons with Atalanta.
From what I've been told and read about hamstrings, an injury like that for a player who doesn't get injured often is a huge sign that he's been playing too many games too quickly and has not had enough time to recover.

Yeah, I wouldn't be too worried about it.

It might not be but I think it should be. Anyway, moving on.

Gosens is fine, whatever. I just don't get the rush to sign him now. If we're worried about competition in the summer who cares, there's other options. But on a very limited budget we have far bigger needs right now than an injured lwb

We are preparing for Perisic departure. We are also looking for some depth in our striker department.

Given the lack of quality strikers in our price range, signing Perisic’s replacement a bit early and use Perisic as the back up striker is probably a smart move.

Delighted with this if it goes through. We are addressing the Perisic subject, getting a player which is entering his prime, weakening our direct competition and getting a player which is perfectly suited to our system. Furthermore Gosens is a fantastic guy regarding his behaviour. He is a passionate football player and not some Instagram influencer kid.

I‘m strongly in favour of getting him when it comes to him vs Kostic considering Kostic‘s behaviour towards Frankfurt in the summer and him having to get used to Serie A in winter. Gosens basically has to move 60 kilometers away and go on with his usual job.

What happens if Perisic gets injured?

Don’t say Di Marco cos he clearly can’t play that position.

Well what I will say is this, I know it seems like a panic signing because of the name and figure. However, rumors about this January market have been fairly consistent regarding the type of player the manager and Inzaghi are looking for. It’s pretty much always been a LWB, whether we agree that is the biggest need or not. I think the managements shown enough to trust them on their decision for what the squad needs.

Dimarco cannot swing in a cross to save his life. Don’t understand me wrong, he has the technique to do so, but doesn’t have the physical attributes to get into those positions. He has proven that on many occasions. What he can do is to open up the game and provide a further offensive option as a LCB though.

Yet he's going to kept as some sort of Joao Mario physique level centre back?

Preparing for Perisic departure is all well and good, but that's quite the luxury when we're about to go to play Liverpool with Gags in the lineup and our entire strike force has been crap for months aside from Sanchez who is just about due for his next international break injury. I guess we'll see what the figures wind up being.

What happens if Perisic gets injured?

Don’t say Di Marco cos he clearly can’t play that position.

What happens if another striker gets injured? What happens if any of our 3 center backs get injured? What happens if any of our 3 starting mids get injured? Our backups are underwhelming across the board. And then of course there's the fact that Gosens is already injured.

Dimarco/Darmian filing in at lwb for a while is far less of a concern to me than than Gags/Vecino/30 minutes of Vidal in midfield. Or relying on elderly Dzeko/Sanchez to stay healthy.

Did I miss some stinker of a performance from DiMarco as wingback?
I was literally thinking the same thing
Gosens is a quality signing, turns 28 in the summer, knows the league, tap into the Germans.. I love it. Excited for this to come to fruitition!

It's actually a welcome change. We were expecting a good player on loan, but here we are trying to sign a player for good.

The names of Kostic, Angelino, Bensebani (or however it is), Telles, Bernat, Kurzawa etc were thrown and some were considered, but Gosens' name was not considered due to high demands from Atalanta. And he also was injured for a while so there was this kind of risk.

It's welcome because until yesterday, the management was under the idea that we couldn't or shouldn't spend for a WBL right now. So either it's due to Perisic talking with Zhang (why? he talks to Marotta any day if he wants something) or because Zhang told the management about the ownership's intentions. It's plain retarded that these things have to be done face to face, we're losing valuable time since there's no link between the Chinese and the management unless the kid is sent to take a selfie in Duomo...

i'll wait for a better source but promising!!
It's true and iirc it has been reported by others as well.

Atalanta wants 35m, we offered 25m. They're going to close the deal today, both parties want to see this done.
