Personally, I wish he would stop talking about that missed opportunity as it serves as a reminder as to how close we came last season. Undoubtedly, we had a chance to make history and missed out because Lukaku is completely useless. Guardiola's frequent mention of the miss makes me think that he is still in disbelief about it.

I was only thinking about it yesterday, the manner in which we were eliminated from the Champions League this season. I tried to pinpoint what was fundamentally different from last season to this season and all I could come up with was Arnutovic's numerous and wasteful misses in the first leg against Athletico and the fact that Lukaku was not playing as a foil for Lautaro.

All along, Brehme was right about him: a striker who fails to take a chance from three meters out in a Champions League Final, is anything but elite.
