Glad that he got the start that he did with two goals that should only benefit him to eas the pressure as its evident to see he missed most of pre-season and lacks match fitness somehow.

Will only get better and expect after national break he will be much better.

Apparently, conte put him on a strict diet. Not that he is fat or anything, but in football 2-3 kilos can make the difference.

You make it sound like we scored on the counter before he arrived
Nah, never implied that. That’s your own conclusion.

It's not just the shot that's criticized, the whole movement was way off.

There was no way the ball could reach Lukaku where he was running to, the path was blocked. The ball only reached Lukaku because it went in between the legs of the defender. The run was quite bad and showed lack of spatial awareness since the only way he could have received the ball where he was showing (can he stop doing this ffs?) was if his teammate dribbled past the other defender out wide and slotted an outwards pass to Lukaku. There also was no defender onto him so he could have ensure his run was better timed. He was completely unmarked. His defender abandoned him to go for the ball and Politano.

The execution was also quite bad because he opted for a first time shoot off balance when his body was facing the exterior of the goal. He had time to control it and finish it on the second time but he always prefers to shoot (or pass) first time no matter what. He's no 'killer' unfortunately otherwise that would have been 1-3.

You can also notice this with the last Politano chance. He's running in the correct lane per se, but he's completely ignoring that a defender was on his left and closer to the ball if a pass would take place, meaning that he wouldn't receive it for a tap in... Unless the pass was made in a very specific place, at a very specific time, assuming that neither ball marker and GK could reach it. Politano could have done better of course, but given how the situation was taking place, Lukaku's run was also off.

I get this is a Lukaku thread but if you have his level of nitpicking for him I can’t imagine how you felt on the performance of several others today. By the way, I sense you must have played the game at a very very high level to critique such movements. No credit for the through ball to Sensi, the calm PK finish in hostile environment, the winning of nearly ever aerial ball sent his way and the work rate to win balls back from defenders? I get it. Let’s not be fair to the player and consider both the good and bad. Let me guess, Icardi apologist?

I wouldn't say Icardi is way better. They both have their limitations. Lukaku's first touch, Icardi not being involved whatsoever in certain games. I don't really care how many goals Lukaku scores as long as he contributes. In the first 2 games, I think he's shown some of his weaknesses but also strengths. He did score just a penalty but I liked his link up play to set up Sensi for that goal. Hopefully we see a lot more of Lukaku using his strength because when he gets on the ball there is no defender in Serie A that can knock him off it.

We again fail to win. 3 games in a row now. Selling Lukaku may be one of Ole's biggest mistakes, especially because he was not replaced.

We don't care about your results and how your club failed to replace the players it sold. We also don't care how shit your club is.

This is an Inter forum, not a Manchester United forum. Go back to the Manchester United forum and save us the bullshit.

Don’t worry above the guy above, he has anger management issues

We do care about Utd’s current result as it correctly reflects how poor the club was in general and how Lukaku and Sanchez were scapegoats, very informative.

Very bad first half, but he wasn't the only one. Was getting better and better later on. Stole the ball a few times.

Winning at Sardinia is always hard. So this should feel good in the locker room.

Heard United needed a penalty taker.

I was happy with his performance, it was tough for him in the first half but came up big (no pun intended), loved the way he helped in the build up to the goal and his penalty was perfect.

Too bad about the Cagliari fans. Horrible.

Thanks, no worries. Although it can be argued that Lukaku was a scapegoat, I don't think Alexis was. He was genuinely bad, but I do think he will play better if he is not on the wing. Of course Inter do not play that formation currently so it should be ok. One thing I can say is, it is possible that Alexis is completely past it (I do not think so) but certainly Lukaku has a lot to give.

For those interested in Alexis & Lukaku link up:

I did credit him for the pass to Sensi in the game thread. The discussion here is about his miss.

He didn't win every aerial battle closer to half of them.

In his post match comments he said that he doesnt just want to score but also wants to assist more. This is something that one hardly hears from strikers :D.This is why Conte wanted him imo.Great attitude and camaraderie. We need team players and its a refreshing thing to see when we have had so many whiny primadonnas in the recent past.

Suarez passes a lot. Firmino. Kane. Džeko. Ibra. Benzema. There is a bunch of players that scored AND assisted lots through their career. There is always a way.

If you refer to the following situation (on the photos) , i don't agree. Politano had time enough to pass the ball to Lukaku.

The lukaku vs icardi comparison is totally pointless. They could have been a great duo. Icardi wasn't kicked away for technical reasons, only because of his behavioural issues, so to speak.

Who's the better forward, it's a purely academic discussion.

Picture A

No point in passing, he just received the ball and can go head to head

Picture B

Ball not really in his possession there. He cannot pass at that moment obviously. The picture is giving the illusion that Politano held the ball there but he was running behind it.

Picture C

Lukaku is still way behind. I agree that this was the time to pass, but it would have been quite hard to make it reach Lukaku's run without interference.

And that's exactly what I'm saying, he doesn't read the situation. He should have changed direction to his left, toward Politano and annul the run of the defender. Instead he kept going straight and after that the defender interrupted the passing lane whilst Politano was left hanging, tried to change his course of action and of course delaying his decision making. He should have buried it right after that 3rd picture or at least make a bad attempt to reach Lukaku. You'd be complaining that he messed up a perfect scoring chance if he did that though.
