How much of his goalscoring form was due to Conte forcing him to do extra work?
If we sign him back he's gonna be a completely different player than before. He doesn't have the discipline to work out his flaws without outside help.
He'd still be better than Dzeko tbh.

He still scored lots of goals at all his clubs aside from Chelsea and scores regularly for Belgium.

I’d have him back for a loan only and option to buy which we could never afford so we’d try to ‘negotiate’ but fail 🤣😂

Don't see how anyone could think he is anything but a massive upgrade on our current team
Dzeko... Dzeko... Erm... Dzeko...

He has basically the same stats as he did in his last season at Manchester.
35games, 12 goals, 2 assists in 2712minutes
45games, 15 goals, 4 assists in 3001minutes

He needs a babysitter if we are to resign him or else he'll just stink up the place. Conte had to do extra work with him because if Lukaku failed he'd look like a bum for wasting so much money on him.

Ya'll talk about Lukaku like he isn't a world class striker proven at Inter.

These forums have massively declined this season.

If you dont prove yourself in ManU and Chelsea when you are in "your prime" of course you are not world class,I dont se any problem people pointing that in this thread.

If it's a good deal i.e dry loan for sensible wages , then why not !!

He will definitely add something to our current strike force.

El Toro / Dzeko is not working out all the time.

His first season was a success at United. When ole came in he was used on the left wing.

You're saying games, but the vast majority of those were from the bench.

This is a valid concern. I guess Inzaghi will be happy to finally train him!

I mean if we`re only paying for 50% of his current wage, that would be like he is back to his previous contract. No risk with the transfer fee, only potential reward IMO.

INTER DIRECTORS NO LONGER RULE OUT LUKAKU’S RETURN

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Inter directors no longer rule out Romelu Lukaku’s return in the summer, with the Chelsea striker pushing to wear the Nerazzurri shirt again.
Tuttosport reported last week that the Chelsea star has repeatedly called Inter executives and players to tell them that he is open to returning to the Stadio Meazza. The former Manchester United star is having a tough time at Stamford Bridge, where he hasn’t started a game since February. He is unhappy at Chelsea and is pushing for a return to Inter.

The Nerazzurri need to balance the books and may sell some of their stars in the summer transfer window, but according to La Gazzetta dello Sport, their directors no longer rule out a possible return of their ex-star.

The report specifies that Inter would only afford Lukaku’s return on a loan deal. As of today, Chelsea can’t sign or sell new players because of sanctions on their owner Roman Abramovich. The Blues are in the process of changing their ownership, so Inter are waiting to know what will happen in the control room at Stamford Bridge before talking to the Premier League giants.
Lukaku scored 64 goals in 95 appearances across all competitions during his two-year spell at Inter under Antonio Conte.
Sell him for 113M, take him back for free - another Marotta masterclass?

For "conspiracy theory" fans: this was the plan all along, this is why we did not invest that transfer money. Dzeko was a stepping stone and Scamacca might learn a few things from Lukaku (for 1 year until he adapts).

Honestly it seems ridiculous but Chelsea have plenty of history of doing this with both us and Milan. Crespo, shevchenko, Veron all jump to mind. Obviously a long time ago and very different financially, I don't expect us to get Lukaku back on basically free.

Whether I'd do it or not depends heavily on cost. Even if it's just his unamortised cost + previous salary it's a bit too risky atm imho. He may never return to his best (like the strikers above)

I d guess it all depends on who the new owners of Chelsea are and if they wanna start fresh....

I d take lukaku back in a heart beat if we can afford him, mainly cause he proved himselfe here he showed he is a good striking partner for lautaro and i dont see us getting a striker where we get a better quality/price ratio.
Ofcourse that is assuming we get him on a heavy discount.

Also when it comes to form Lukaku has alway needed consistency and a coach who 100% backed him to reach his highs, when ever the coach showed trust in him he performed very well. Also he s bad at handling fans turning on him which might be my biggest concern in case of a return to inter.
yes we d take a risk with him but it would not be a bigger risk than trusting scamacca or whom ever we d manage to get instead.
As far as i know lukaku is the only borderline WC striker who desperately wants to join us.

His current amortized value (current value) is close to 90m€.

We can't buy player in cash even with half of that value without selling a key player.

Maybe paid loan for 2 years perhaps? Lukaku would get 2 good years at Inter, then someone else could buy him for decent fee after Chelsea wouldn't take too big hit if they wanted selling him or keep loaning out again.

If he gets 10% of the backing that Dzeko’s been getting from Inzaghi, Romelu’s scoring 50 odd goals next season.

I don’t want him back here! Totally have lost respect for him. Just last summer he jumped Chelsea train after he just told that "Yes, I am staying," and if there is any problems he act like true primadonna… ManU and Chelsea…

Thank god Chelsea made that offer last summer! But if we are going to get Hakimi back I’m all in! Sell Lautaro and Dumfries and get rid of Sanchez and get Dybala and Hakimi :)

Yes something like that is plausible too, back to my point about Chelsea's history with us and Milan.

Issue is how much can we pay or are willing to pay.

Basically getting Lukaku would mean no Scamacca. That could be a way to go if Scamacca is simply too expensive. It would give us few years to look for that number 1 striker we need.

Then another thing is what kind of deal structure would Lukaku agree. I don't want us to commit to Lukaku for more than 2, max 3 years.

This would be great and it would allow us to strengthen the squad in different positions instead of buying just a striker and try and find the crumbs at the transfermarket.

Beyond naive to think Lukaku’s issues are all confidence and not from his own technical deficiencies.

We are more likely to get a MU/Chelsea’s Lukaku than the Conte/Everton/West Brom’s Lukaku.

Unless he’s willing to earn Correa’s wages, too much risk, do not want.

Mind you, we can have Dybala for the same wages and without a transfer fee.
