We have a saying: better to be first in the village* than second in the city**.

*village here: Serie A, less exposure than PL, he's liked universally, rated, no one pays attention to his gaffes because he can hype his numbers etc etc. He's a self proclaimed "king" here and there's not that many who bother to dismiss that.
**city here: PL, more exposure, Chelsea are CL defending champions, all lights will be on them, expectations to lead somewhere else where there's already someone else leading.

Obviously I applaud his decision to stay as any sensible person would prefer Inter to Chelsea and I do not subscribe the notion that he'll have a better environment there or that it's by any situation a bigger club or has a higher status than Inter.

Though this was something he personally felt.
My objection here is that this guy said that Chelsea was his favorite team, wanted to do it where Drogba did it and if this is all true, they're handing him a silver plate for a second opportunity at their best (CL winners, probably less of a fluke than 2012 due to great form, even if it's still an overall subpar CL winner)) whilst he's also at his best (his words).

Feels like the rejection [if true] comes from not wanting to abandon a comfort zone and is quite haunted by his past. Hopefully it doesn't affect him going forward into the season. All lights will be on him there as a "bust" transfer of Manchester United that returns to a club that he ended up at WBA and Everton instead of their first team. If he didn't have history with them (Chelsea and PL) I think he'd be gone already.
My man is an expert of finding faults in Lukaku. I hope you're not that harsh towards yourself.

Yeah, I sense that's the case with Lukaku. Eg Basto, Barella are Italians with relevant past connections to Inter, so the name of Inter might mean something different to them.

In Lukaku's case he probably developed strong attachment, but for the reasons you described, which is understandable all things considered.

No complaints here though. It's just this imaginary offer is definitely the amount I would say yes to.

Two reasons why that is not a good comparison:

1. Juve replaced Conte with a proven coach Allegri
2. Juve weren't broke, they invested heavily on improving the 3 time champion squad for Allegri - in his first two seasons, Juve invested 140m NET on transfers (240m gross transfer spend) & bought players like Dybala, Morata, Pjanic, Alex Sandro, Cuadrado, Evra, Mandzukic, Coman, etc.

If Inter were in that position, I would not suggest selling Lukaku, not even for 130m. But unfortunately our situation is entirely different. Inter are broke, forget about investing we needed to sell Hakimi just to keep the lights on. I don't think that with a coach downgrade plus a Hakimi downgrade, we would start as favourites for the Scudetto. Juve are much stronger than last season just by changing their coach.

Lukaku, De Vrij and Brozovic are at their peak value. Whatever happens, their value will nosedive in the next 2 years. If we get a crazy offer for any of them, its time to cash in. We have a top operator like Marotta, lets give him some money to play with and buy some younger players to rebuild. I bet if Marotta has 130m to spend, we will end up becoming stronger post-Lukaku.
1. if Allegri was a proven coach, then Inzaghi is one too. He only won a scudetto with a great Milan team, Inzaghi won 3 trophies with Lazio, which is not something everyone could do considering their team. Also don't forget how angry Juve fans were after Allegri became the new coach, no one wanted him.

2. most of them came in their second allegri year. But anyway, if you see Contes team and the one from Allegri, there is not much diffrence. They still had the same defence and a great midfield. Maybe only their forwards improved a litle bit (from Tevez-Llorente to Dybala-Mandzukic).
They for sure didn't lost a important player like Hakimi. But we still got a improvement on the other side (Dimarco), and hoping that Nandez is good, we could still remain top on the wings!

Sure, i understand youre whole point. But it's not sure that we still gonna have problems in the next years, it really depends on Suning from what i know.

We will anyway see how much stronger juve will be. For now they seem not to improve their defence and Locatelli will not resolve theyre problems in the midfield. Chiesa Dybala and Ronaldo is an amazing attack.

I mean 130mil is a more than fair sum, but I still wouldn’t sell without a good plan in place to reinvest the money. At this point in time that money would do little more than line the Zhang’s pockets.
☝️ This above everything else that’s been discussed.

While I’ve been a big supporter of Suning, there’s no doubt we’re currently paying the price for their calamitous investments outside of Inter (of course, in addition to Chinese government restrictions.)

People might point to Barca as a yardstick but being marginally better off than the most debt-laden club in the world doesn’t make me feel better.

Suning’s financial issues are currently so monstrous that I can’t really trust that any money from sales would be reinvested into the club. Even if we sold Lukaku for €500m I wouldn’t be surprised to see us “replace” him with for a loan + option of Caputo.

What I’m trying to say is, it’s obviously fine for us as fans to have fun speculating about transfer ins and outs. I for one would unquestionably sell Lukaku for €120m - 130m and get Vlahovic. However there’s just too much financial uncertainty surrounding Suning. I can totally see us selling Lukaku and using that money to pay off a tiny speck of Suning’s apocalyptic debt.

about wrong signal, we cant go past group stage 3 years in a row, we sold our top WB hakimi so we can sell 28 years old lukaku for 130

dont worry about our "reputation" its perferct clear where we are as a club

and we have to sell lukaku, a 28 years old player for 130 mil, its right to do so and every other smart club in our postion would do the same
Yes, we had a coward coach in Lucky Luciano, while Conte had no idea how to open up defences (except for the counter), so I won`t cry after Conte.

We know why Hakimi has been sacrified and I`m still sad about it. This is life I guess... but we still have a squad of champions and managed to keep most of them.

Ownership and management seem to make all kind of deals in order not to be forced to sell more players, because we are not a selling club. We are Inter and we should always have top strikers of this world.

The overall purpose of Inter is not to sell players or make profit, but to win titles.

The potential replacements mentioned here don`t convince me. If Chel$ki can`t get Haaland, neither can we. Vlahovic is going to be a top player, but why waste a season where we can still win Scudetto? Lukaku will be 100M+ player next year as well. Thanks, but no thanks.

Guys, please remember: this is not FM/FIFA, this is real life and Lukaku has already proven he can dominate Serie A.

Rejecting 15m (double of what he is earning here) says a lot about his character and loyalty. He will reward us with his performances, stay tooned.

Why would he do that? He knows that money is not everything.

1/ According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, he doesn’t have good memories from his Premier League days as he often received criticism from tabloids that discussed more his weight than his performances on the pitch.’

2/ The Belgian striker has also settled in Milan, where he has bought three apartments and started some businesses around the city. He is also on very good terms with Inter fans who have always supported him during his two-year spell at the club.

3/ Lukaku doesn’t forget Inter offered him an escape route from Manchester United when he wanted to leave Old Trafford at all costs in 2019. Inter are one of the clubs he supported as a child, so the Belgian doesn’t want to leave now.

4/ Last but not least, Lukaku wants to win another piece of silverware with the Nerazzurri after their Serie A title in 2020-21. The former Everton and Manchester United hitman has even more motivation than last season as Antonio Conte left the club, so Lukaku wants to become the leader of another winning campaign.

Unfortunately this will be the best time to monetize with Lukaku. I mean if you ever want to sell Lukaku it's this summer. Relatively good Euros (4 goals) and two almost monster seasons behind. If he scores even more this season he might have 100m€ value in the market, maybe. But the thing is EPL clubs are actually more concerned with aging players than other leagues (Italy, Spain) so no 130m€ offers anymore after this season (if it's even true this summer). He's year older next year and EPL clubs won't pay 100m+ € for almost 30-year-olds.

Either way, let's hope for the best.
The finances part is a big unknown to everyone. If we still have to sell starting players, we will be regretting this, if we don't, good for us.

I fear we are still trying to shop around some of our stars.

Im sorry but we are not a selling club :yao:

We did not have enough money to pay these champions wages few months ago! We are only looking for free loans and free transfers currently and give golden handshakes to save every cent. So Im more than happy if we get crazy offer for Lukaku or Lautaro and sell one of them and fix our finance and get new players to cover Lukaku/Lautaro, Eriksen and Hakimi.

I was also wating to ”this is not a FM/Fifa comment”. Like in real life players do not get sold and then replaced with other players?

Lukaku hardly dominated last season but was very good and certainly is dispensable, like any other player! Sooner or later every player will be replaced! But I trust Marotta and he has made some though decisions in the past like sold Pogba…

But it is what it is and I hope we can get our finance in balance and Lukaku continue scoring?

13OM for Big Rom, compelling to say the least. May not get a better offer than that. Lukaku has a sour taste for the EPL media and fans so it's not surprising he's giving half a peace sign right now. Good for him.

In a perfect world, he should be sold, we could rebuild our team with that money and he is absolutely not worth all that money! A proper RWB and striker can be achieved for less than 130mil, making Lautaro our main striker. If selling Lukaku means saving the club, do it.

Selling Lukaku doesn't save the club.
Suning selling Inter does.

The time to sell him was before selling Hakimi. Selling him now would be way too risky.

The departure of Lukaku from Inter isn't contemplated in an ideal world.
I mean in an ideal world we'd have someone who can score consistently in Champions League regardless of the opponents and Haaland does, Lukaku does not.

I guess we just have 2 different definitions of ideal world

The Athletic: Chelsea have already made two bids for Romelu Lukaku this summer, which is a strong signal of intent. Don’t be surprised if Chelsea make a third attempt for Lukaku — no matter what Inter’s stance is.
