I wonder how he will mentally cope again in England. The media and fans were always hard on him, especially later on when he was at Man U. Coming to Inter was a breath of fresh air for him and a definite confidence boost he so desperately needed. If he doesn't starting scoring immediately for Chelsea he could very likely revert back to the Lukaku we knew pre-Inter.

It's always seemed like he's been wanting to prove all of them wrong when he first came here, I think his plan was to always return to England and shut up everyone who doubted him, which he already has done imo. Best of luck, Romelu. I do think Tuchel can get a lot out of him.

Good lad. Didn’t cause any drama outside of the occasional on-field petulance. But that seems normal for strikers tbh. He generally seems a likeable individual and he’ll be missed in the dressing room and on the field too obviously. Sad to see him go but hopefully he’ll do well at Chelsea. The pressure will be immense so good luck Rom! Thanks for all the goals and leading us the scudetto :interflag:

Someone please tell me why we sold him for 115 when it is clear like daylight they would have paid 130.
Yea. This is my sentiment.

We sold him for €115m because we're horrendous at selling. We're always too reasonable and accommodating for buyers, just see Hakimi. We sold him to the richest club on the planet at a discount. What kind of retard gives PSG a discount. And when it comes to unwanted players we're downright incompetent to the point of negligence.

For all the praise and trust Marotta and co. receive around here (and I like Marotta and Ausilio as well), too many people turn a blind eye to his/their consistent and ludicrous failures to sell properly.

Please. 115m€ is the record fee of Serie A history. And it was done during global pandemic.

The rumored asking price of 130m€ was a rumor. No one knows how the negotiations really went. Now people get fixated over that number because it was mentioned first. But if it wasn't ever mentioned, suggesting in July that we'd get 115m€ for Lukaku and vast majority of the forum would have signed up for that.

Yet Man Utd just bought Sancho and City just bought Grealish. Pandemic doesn't mean fuck to these EPL scams. While I agree that 115m is still a great price, Chelsea literally had no other choice. Let's not forget we wanted 80m or nothing for Hakimi yet they were able to get him for 70m with add ons and prolly a hand job for Marotta from Nasser

Agreed with brak, the pandemic has affected us - not the team actually buying (to any comparable extent).

How can you say that? You can't tell if there was no pandemic, Chelsea would have acted the same in the market. Same goes for City and United.

This nitpicking is IMO just so lame and typical forum behaviour, you guys take one tiny piece from my post and concentrate on it as if it's the main point. The main point is we got a good if not great price for Lukaku. And that's irregardless of who the buyer is. Because of the pandemic, EPL clubs are the only ones buying any big player. If we don't sell there, there is no sale. And no one can say selling Lukaku at his peak is bad business.

And my main point is simply that it could've been even better.

I'm referring to our selling / off-boarding in general, not just Lukaku. So much wasted / foregone money in this department. Perhaps my ranting about our general inability to sell has clouded the conversation specifically regarding Lukaku's sale.

Forget the consistent failures to get rid of the likes of Joao Mario for a second - are you telling me we couldn't possibly squeeze out €5-10m more from Chelsea or P$G for Lukaku and Hakimi? If so, we'll have to agree to disagree then.

I just don't think we're really wringing that sponge dry when given the opportunity. Not sure what's controversial about that. Considering our desperate financial situation and the increasing wealth disparity between EPL clubs (plus PSG) and everyone else, I want to take these cunts to the cleaners.

I think the Lukaku deal is sensible and acceptable - nothing more. And I'm not attacking you at all but bruh I remember you yourself being annoyed at the €115m figure the other day. You were saying the exact same thing that I am, frustrated we couldn't get an extra 5-10m. What made you change your mind and now say that it's a great price?

chelsea just won the champions league. it's given them probably 100-200mil to splash, on top of their existing transfer budget...
