According to Tuttosport newspaper, Lukaku is in contact with Inter directors Piero Ausilio and Beppe Marotta and has asked them to return to the club. The striker is also dropping hints on social media and liked the picture of the
team-building barbecue organized at the Pinetina a couple of weeks ago.
Inter directors and President Steven Zhang are aware that Lukaku wants to return and is ready to cut his salary by almost 50% to play for the Nerazzurri again. However, the Serie A champions must balance the books and could see more stars leave in the summer, perhaps Stefan de Vrij and Lautaro Martinez.
Lukaku isn’t on good terms with Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel, but even if the German coach leaves in the summer, any potential new owner of the Blues will not sell Lukaku on the cheap after his €113m transfer just one year ago. This means that the striker would only return to Inter on loan, but the club would face the same economic issues at the end of the next campaign.
