Samir was one of the top goalie in the world saving our asses many times in the past.
It's not his fault the coach keep asking him to play past his prime ahead of Onana.
What do you want him to do? rejecting to be in the starting line up? his contract said he can't

And yes, volleykick is the hardest to save, it creates a very random trajectories. here not many top goalkeepers could react to it let alone had their hand near the balls

If he genuinely felt like he couldn’t keep up he does have the right to tell the coach but I don’t think he realises this and this convo certainly hasn’t happened. He certainly isn’t bowing down and letting someone more capable have a shot.

None of these things though are really his problem. The coach should have benched him long before now.

Surely he must realize it isn’t normal to let in 2 or 3 goals a game when the opposition only shoots five times if that. Samir is dusted and he knows it. He also knows the second he gives up his career as a pro at the top level is over.

I hate critiquing him but this nonsense has gone on long enough. I have never seen a GK cemented into the ground like him. Half the shots he faces he doesn’t move. Half the time he gets his hands on a shot it goes in anyways. How many games has he genuinely saved or even won us points the last few years? Not many. We win games in spite of him.

Reality is he’s at the end of his career and he’s not going to willingly give up whatever little he has left. The fact Toldo did back in the day is a rarity. If Maignan were on this Inter team there’s a good chance we’re in a top four position.

We potentially have a GK able to start right now who can win us points when the team is shitting the bed. And this team does a lot of shitting. It’s obvious that Handanovic is not winning us anything. At best he’s not costing us anything. This team isn’t good enough right now for him to be good enough like the last few years. Will Onana be mediocre? Perhaps. But he has the upside a shit team like us needs. Samir 100% does not. I love Samir, but he is a finished GK at this level.

I think Handanovic wants to make it into Inter's top 10 all time appearances, so he demands to start at least another 9 matches, after which he'll have 456 over Cordoba's 455 caps. Why the club is going along with it is anybody's guess. Needless to say if this is true (just speculation on my part), then he's not helping Inter at all by prioritizing his own personal glory over the team's performances.

I really don't think we can start him anymore, unless we are facing way weaker teams. The % of shots saved this year is really unbearable.

Toldo didn’t ‘give it up’, he was benched by a manager with some common sense. JC was originally meant to be his understudy as most know anyways which isn’t too dissimilar to the current situation. The difference now is that our manager is a potato incapable of making this common sense decision.

I imagine Handa would kinda happily eat bench while getting paid millions similar to Toldo if he was told it’s this or GTFO.

I think the original plan for the respective goalkeeper rotation is what we are seeing. That may change since things haven't gone according to plan. If Inzaghi sticks with a more counter attack strategy a la Barca then Handa will still play probably more than many here wish for ( in SerieA), at least until the World Cup. During that break a major rethink may come about.

tbh Inzaghi went for it only after we drew Milan in the semis, he played the entire second team vs Empoli in January and I don't think we spent much energy beating Roma at home

No we lost the league by going to Liverpool to not get embarrassed and we won that game.

The team had no depth last season and this season doesn’t even have 8 good players in the main roster
