I think the poll will be added merely as a formality. Handa more than deserves every ounce of LGI. IMO he is our best player after treble era (even better than Brozovic) and he was a worldclass GK during our dark era. Alas our achievement is mediocre at best so nobody talks a middletable club GK. And I do not know how he ranks among Inter GK in history, but I think peak Handa is better than Julio Cesar, Toldo, and Pagliuca (never watched Zenga so can't comment). At least he won a scudetto and tasted an UCL final as his farewell. Ciao Handa, your service will forever be cherished.

Same protocol we used for Maicom, Zanetti, and Milito. It's an obvious yes. If anyone wants to try arguing against it, be my guest. But when you're an elite keeper for ten seasons, a captain for five, top ten for the club in caps, and lead us to our first Scudetto in a decade, it's not much of a conversation worth having.

I don't know the reasons why he did not renew, but if that was only Handanovic decision, it's a mistake imo. With new young goalkeeper, and Onana gone, he would have had enough chances to play at high level next season.
He still could find some bottom team, where to be a starter, but it's not the same I guess.

I did see one of the names linked was our former primavera boy Di Gennaro who is playing in Serie C.

Tough choice really. Spend your foreseeable future in comfort as a full time training partner and cheerleader, or play regular football in the abyss known as Serie C.

My stance on him is known. We got what we paid for him, take that however you want. There were a lot worse goalkeepers than him, some of his stops were legendary (mostly in his early years at Inter).. but he wasn't even the best Slovenian goalkeeper to me. He got better at some things through the years - like distribution and setting defence, but maybe it was a bit too late. At least he got that Scudetto that was so evasive to him all these years.
Also he never looked as confident/mentally tough as some other goalkeepers.

He gets LGI for his longevity mostly, also was a captain. If he left sooner, he might not get this status at FIF.

One of the best goalkeepers serie a has ever had. The only unlucky thing is that at his prime, Inter were shit and when he declined, Inter got better. He's for sure on par with Toldo and Cesar.

Handa is/was a very good goalkeeper. But one of Serie A's best seems a bit much. Just say he was one of the best of his time, that's praise enough. But okay, I'll shut up now.

Yeah buddy, that's an absurd statement, but you're definitely not alone because we've seen crazier shit being passed around as fact here.

Onana had some major blunders - mostly unpunished - but he was just so good with the ball (and no howlers despite the high risk helps) that people ignored the goalkeeping part.

If Handanovic conceded the goals Onana had, he'd be crucified here. For some reason our (FIF) fanbase is like a child and wants new things and gets tired of things that are overly used. Was the same case with freaking Zanetti when he was playing so Handanovic cannot be immune to that. People always assume new = better.

I mean just that Candreva goal alone would have been enough for 75% of this forum to say "I never want to see him again", yet the biggest save in a title winning situation came from Handanovic in the Coppa final. And Onana was not at fault in Rodri's goal, but given how he didn't move if you reverse them and put Handanovic there it's suddenly a "he's finished" situation.

Onana had like 4-5 brilliant GK moments this season. Not significantly more than Handanovic 3-4 similar moments, but the edge goes to Onana because of the CL factor and the Porto double/triple save.

GK wise, the difference was marginal. It's just that we managed to relieve more pressure defensively due to Onana's ability with the ball.

Well, a guaranteed top 30 GK ever in Serie A is definitely the area he should be rated in and arguably top 15-20.
And top 5 in the last 30 years.

3 times best serie a goalkeeper, 2 of which came while Buffon was still in his prime. Most penalty saves in Serie A history and most penalty saves in a top 5 league with 38. The second best is Buffon with 30, so the margin is pretty big. Also, saying Onana's half a season is better than Handa's any season at inters is just wrong. Just go back to the seasons where ha had to work with trash like Jesus, Campagnaro, Vidic, Silvestre, Ranocchia and finished Samuel. I am not even gonna mention the full backs or the midfield, cause just the thought of it makes me wanna kill myself. So, the fact that Inter was not facing relegation with those garbage ass teams and was in the top 7 is a miracle, mostly cause of Handa's saves. Also, Onana was great in the champions league, but i dont think he was on same level in serie a. Anyway, people can have their own opinion, i also have some that some, or most people here, would not agree with.

It's our attack (Icardi, Palacio, Shaqiri, Podolski) together with some of our midfield players (Kovačić, Hernanes) that did enough, it wasn't just Handa.

That seasons we conceded 48 goals, which is the same as Atalanta this season. This season we conceded 42 goals and our defence is a lot better. So I don't think we had such a bad team that it's a wonder why we didn't fall into Serie B.

After that we added Telles, Miranda and Murillo, so our defence was slowly getting better with almost every season. So I'm not going to talk about those seasons, as the "it's only Handa that carried us" just doesn't apply.



Handa's first season he entered an aged group, but full of champions. In attack we still had Milito (who sadly got injured, but he still scored 9 goals <3), Cassano, Palacio.
Cambiasso was still only 32, but overall all the other midfielders were more miss than hit - Kova too young, Guarin good, but not great, Kuzma lol, Joel Obi lol, Ricky Alvarez , old Stanković,...

The defence was also meh, also had Schelotto . This is probably the most impressive season for Handa, even tho we finished 9th. The whole squad was mostly old or mostly shit.

And the next season (2013-2014) our squad got a little bit better and Handa was at his best. That's hist best season for us and followed by his 1st season, 1st Spalletti season and second Conte season his best here.

So what I conclude, he had 2 seasons when he was basically a shot-stopping god for us, but still had faults in his game. But still, those two seasons are the most talked about, so maybe he was the thin line that separated us from Serie B. But after that, the team got slowly better and I don't believe he was one of the best ever in Serie A. Maybe he didn't get to show it because the defence got better

Couldn't have said it better. Handanovic has stayed longer than Pagliuca and won more trophies and both are respected by all fans. He easily hits every LGI argument.

I agree too..

Onana really opened my eyes to what was possible and what we have been missing out on for a decade. Handa was amazing and belongs in LGI.

Regardless, we need to move away from keeper like Handa, being good as shot stopping is not enough

I don't know man, like I really think prior to Miranda defense was just shit, like even when Cambiasso was 32, either he lost his mobility or the tactics or players around him exposed his weakness at that time, he was more like a liability didn't really cover the d-line well.

Also on the side I think we forgot all impressive his penalty saving is.

Anyway I really appreciate your take to prove votes are great! Let the people vote.
