Despite that Zapata's header attempt in the first half was straight at him, still that was very tricky and it takes a great reflex to save that. Hopefully we keep up like this, and the eventual triumpf his season would mean so much for players like Handanovic who were consistent throughout the years but never won anything.

10th clean sheet of the season. It helps there's no Kolarov and Dambrosio, but still, the last 2-3 months he's been great. The only real mistake in this time was that Bastoni misunderstanding in coppa.

But: I have to admit that I felt asleep in the second half but IRRC some of his passes/plays were terrible yesterday. Or was I already dreaming?

cause of Atalanta pressure, he did kick the ball to the midfield more than usual. I dont blame him, as I'd also have a problem passing it to Vidal. Brozo and Eriksen are the only two guys I am OK with getting that short pass near the box.

I am also ok with any of our 3 defenders getting it. De Vrij, Bastoni and Skriniar are all very good with the ball for defenders. De Vrij and Bastoni usually get the recognition for their ball skills, but sometimes Skriniar does not. He rarely gives away the ball and can make very decent passes.

Yea, I am fine with passes to 3 defenders, but those are mostly to the side. The forward pass is more risky and thats where Brozo comes most of the time.

Skriniar is pretty good on the ball as well. In fact, he tends to make them deep runs here and there as he isn't afraid to take on opponents. He succeeds in most of them though. But I do agree that both Bastoni and de Vrij are better in term of passing.

Then again, there aren't many defenders who have Bastoni's technique though. This might sound premmature but the kid has an amazing vision of the game, and his execution on many things he does looks like a veteran player who's calm and confident.

Does that mean he is really good on the ball? As somebody that played the game I can tell you that it is very hard to take the ball from a strong player when they start a run like that - Lukaku, Skriniar - but that's a run when you see an opening because of space and it's mostly just knocking the ball forward (sure, it works to a degree, but being good on the ball is also what you do with the ball at the end of your run). As a defender, all you can hope is that you get the ball at the right time otherwise you just bounce off the player.

Compared to Zanetti/Messi runs that worked in tight spaces as well, I can't really say Skriniars knocking the ball forward is anything special. That is why I say it's reliable, but it is also a thing that any selfrespecting football player should know how to do...which doesn't mean all do, ofc.

I said he is pretty good on the ball because for a defender he has a good ball control and usually excels in what he does.

And no, I didnt mean runs when he has an open space without being disturbed by opponent players or something, but actually he tends to outplay opponent players. However let's not take this into another level of comparing his runs to Javier Zanetti lol. Capitano was something else though.

I would say that we are blessed to have CB's who are pretty good on the ball, which eases things to the other departments like midfield and attack to create actions quicker and more direct.

Then again, my point is that for a role of CB, his ball-playing abilities are pretty good, but if you compare this to flank players or offensive ones, then of course there could be a difference.

worst case scenario he misses I think Sassuolo and Bologna. It could be a lot worse, but it could be better.

Everytime I saw Radu he was awesome at Genoa, but who knows how well he's gonna do considering he hasn't played a game in like a year or something. I'd still choose him over Padelli anyday.
