I am going to use an NFL analogy to prepare this post.

There are times in the NFL when a team creates a Quarter-Back (QB) controversy by promoting the second string QB to be a starter. When the second string plays well and appears to be able to give the the starter a run for their money in terms of performance and output, then the Franchise creates a QB controversy in terms of which player is going to start from week to week.

I am not sure what has been said to Handanovic behind the scenes or to Onana for that matter. But in my view, no gurantees or promises should have been made to either player. I am hoping that everything that has been reported is just speculation because promising the latter to be a starter or benching our present Captain and telling him that he is going to be Onana's backup would be a huge mistake.

I have provided the above NFL analogy because Inter, depending on what has been said and promised may have created a controversy in terms of who is going to be our starter.

The best way to have handled this would have been for the club to welcome both players to Summer camp and let them battle it out to see who will be starting. Alternatively, Handanovic should be the starter and it is up to Onana to show what he can do and take the starting position.

Juve could have signed Donna, but they passed it up.

Their offer was insufficient, they didn't pass it up.

I've watched him since 2016-17, which pretty much covers his entire professional career....

You also realize that Ajax made it to the CL semis in 2019 and the EL final in 2017? Onana was part of those teams. Maybe if you weren't so hooked on your video games you'd realize that there's actual football going on and there's people who watch that crap.
You’ve already admitted to not watching other leagues outside of the Serie A before so don’t think those couple of Champions league games are good enough to base an opinion on

I've got a mate that lives in Amsterdam and supports Ajax.

He messaged this morning and said "Andre Onana is gonna give you some heart attacks".

The first question I have is why would we get Handanovic offside for someone who is unproven in Serie A?

I do not know if it is true or not, but I have read that we are offering him a five year contract. I have never heard of a player being offered a five year contract. Which brings me back to my first question, why would we offer that kind of contract to an untested Serie A keeper?

Is the answer to both my questions that he was available for free?

Its also pretty pathetic seeing Inter fans being happy as fuck on social media to see Handa going and saying, how now finally we are going to have a real goalkeeper.... pretty sad.

I’m very grateful for what Handanovic has done for Inter. There were some truly dark days in the banter era where he single handily won us points.

However, there were also a lot of days where he compounded those issues or flat out created them. He wasn’t exactly the best goalkeeper for a mentally fragile side as there were plenty of times he capitulated right a long with the rest of them. And this was in his prime.

In recent years he’s gotten more steady as the team has gotten more steady. Perhaps the captaincy also helped. Unfortunately the mistakes in recent times are starting to look more like age and less like mentality. The fact that guys like him, Miranda, and Palacio spent some of their best years in a shitty Inter sides will always be a shame.

I have no agenda with you. I post against anything I see that is dumb or incorrect. If you happen to feel that you're often at the receiving end of that then I suggest you look at yourself.

oh god all those Cuadrado/Juve goals

as the resident Handa hater I can easily admit he's been good lately, but he's showing his years and we can't depend on him. I'd love to have him as a second choice, but first choice, nah

We need to have a legitimate option on the bench in the event Onana doesn't work out. I'm hoping Handanovic on reduced wages will be that guy. If not, we need to make sure we bring in someone like a Sportiello, whose contract expires at the end of the season.
imo considering Inter fucked up financials, Radu as 2nd goalkeeper Inter the best can get, maybe Stankovic could get a chance too

Though Radu or Stankovic are nowhere near Handanovic. Stankovic can be max 3rd keeper if he wants to waste his years. Well same applies to Radu who's older.

Radu is crap. We need Handa, even at this age. As a first choice captain and senior GK, he would be of huge help for both Inter and Onana when he comes.

I believe Handa would stay if he is offered rotational position and not 50% wage, similar to Buffon and Juve. But we are idiots if we told him he will be plain second choice and we offer him half the wage.

Agree but we need some home-grown players for the CL-list right? Onana, Handa and Radu/Stankovic will be enough.

i said that because Inter fucked up financials, maybe Inter doesnt have a single penny to buy their second goalkeeper, ofc Radu and Stankovic isnt getting real experience enough to play in Inter

to be honest, the problem is our 2nd keeper slot in the last few seasons has been pointless. Aside from a bit where Handanovic was out injured, they've had very few games to play.

So there's only 2 types of keepers you can get there - an old guy like Padelli to be backup for a few years, but god forbid you ever actually need to rely on them, or a younger guy who you hope can develop and replace the main one.

Someone like Onana is a clear succession plan for Handanovic, and I really would like Handanovic to accept a rotation role and stay here for another season or two.

We need to have a good back up GK if Onana is a starter because he needs to cover Onana when he’s off to AFCON/CAN
