Eto'o salutes Inter: "You win without me." Inter will save 99 million with this sale. Don't have details yet.

The only way they'd have that calculated if they considered the number as pre-tax wages since clubs are in charge of paying player's taxes in Italy so they carry that cost. Well our wage costs are astonishing and def the highest out of all the teams (I think we were 207M Euros as opposed to 173M and 134M by Milan and Juve respectively). We should really aim to reach Juve's numbers within 5-7 years because these wages are killing us.

Of course they are calculating taxes, but the tax rate in Italy for high-earners is 43%. With that percentage, if the gross salary is 24m€ the net is 24 * 0.57 = 13,7m€. So is Eto'o's annual salary 13,7m€ now? I doubt it. If they reported that Eto'o has given up his August monthly salary which was approx 870k€, annual salary would equal 10,5m€ (just like we've know since the beginning when he came to Inter). So that 24m€ sounds not a credible number.

Here's the thing though, if the numbers are to be believed, selling Eto'o doesn't even put us anywhere near breaking even.. But it leaves us even worse off as a squad.. Plus a replacement for Eto'o still needs to be found.. We're taking such a big hit in quality, for what? A few extra million which Eto'o could possibly bring us through UCL bonuses..

You have to look at the figures put forward by Gazzetta to understand exactly how much we are saving by doing this deal. Even if Eto'o got us to the semi of the CL every year...his salary would negate that

Furthermore, you're pushing the squad from relying on a single player. I know it's a silly way to look at it..but either now, or in 2 years, Eto'o will move on and leave a hole within our squad. I'd rather do it now while we can still earn some money off his sale.

Sell him now and you 99mil saved through transfer fees and salary. Sell him later, he may walk on a free, but by then the damage had been done to our salary books.

We have to look forward niles, sure it's devastating to lose your best player...but we must use this to rebuild, to move forward.

We become a better team when we don't rely on one player anymore. Especially in the big games, like when Silva and Nesta mark out Eto'o.

My take on this is: if we are THAT BROKE, as some say, then selling Eto'o is a temporary solution to fix a 'big' problem. Selling Eto'o would keep us afloat for a while. But ultimately we would require a new source of income like new investors or sponsorships wouldn't we?

If you look at the problem like that, selling Eto'o means a huge loss in footballing quality to partially solve a financial problem. To me that's just not worth it. If we decide to sell him, doesn't that speak volumes as to our ambitions as a 'top' football club?

You can say we have no choice but to sell him, but there's always a choice. Look at teams like Barca and Real, they're in debt too but you don't see Barca selling Messi. Granted, from what we've been hearing our debt is probably much larger than theirs. But I say, screw FFP and balancing the books. Every other top team has gotten stronger but we keep getting weaker every year. Now we are going to get even weaker so we can balance the books. Fuck that!

I could be completely wrong, maybe we do have no choice but to sell him. But as a fan I just can't accept it! My pride as an Interista prevents me from ever being ok with this.

Well, if all the players perform as they can and should, then we don't rely on one player. Simply put, last season we relied on Eto'o so much because a lot of others really sucked. If players like Milito, Cambiasso, Motta, Sneijder, Maicon had been injured less and been on better form, obviously we would have relied on Eto'o a lot less.

Take Pandev with you and maybe it'll be a possibility.

Here is how they come up with the 99 million.

Total sale = 25 million + 2 bonus = 27 million

Total net until 2014 (salary saved) = (9 million/year + 3 bonus/year) x 3 years = 12 x 3 = 36 million (net)

Total gross until 2014 = 72 million

Total sale + total gross until 2014 = 27 + 72 = 99

Eto'o's salary would have to be 480k per week to save 99m. That calculation makes no sense. Where does the 72m come from???

That's fucked. The rumoured transfer fee is the only big problem I have with the sale... should be at least 30 million.

I dont know why people keep comparing Inter to the likes of Barca, Man Utd, Chelsea etc and say that their losses are higher than Inter's. But what they dont get is that FFP isnt about how much losses one has, but how much loss they can sustain. Like it or not, the revenues of those clubs are much higher than the revenues of Inter. The fundamental concept of FFP is that Clubs will only be allowed to spend according to how much they earn and that owners can at maximum pay off 45m of the club's debt from their own pocket.

So, considering that Inter are not earning that much it's natural that they HAVE to cut down their costs. They cant afford to pay high wages or massive transfer prices because then their revenue would be a lot lower than their costs, which would hurt their ability to become self sufficient in the long run. Moreover compared to some of the other Billionaire owners (Milan's included) Moratti isnt worth much actually. His net worth is a lot lower than theirs so he cant afford to try to offset Inter's losses every year with his own money (the 45m clause).

At the end of the day, Italian football is in grave danger of becoming obsolete unless drastic changes are made. The league would never survive when it's biggest clubs (Juventus, Milan, Inter) are no longer able to compete with the top clubs of the world financially. Therefore changes are not just need but they are absolutely necessary to the league's survival, the biggest change is being the policy of club owned stadiums...

Fuckin' UEFA screwed us over when they awarded the Euro 2016 to France. Having an international tournament was the only way those incompetent jackasses at the FIGC would done something about this problem and actually invest money in Italian football...

I don't know if you guys remember but this is something he said back in Jan:

"The 29-year-old concluded by outlining his plans for the rest of his career.

"In my last year I will go to Mallorca, the team that gave me the opportunity to grow," he said.

"In the world of football they gave me the chance to grow and become a man and that is something priceless. That's why I hope my last smile on a football field will be with Mallorca.

"Then I will come back here to coach Inter."

I truly hope you come back one day as coach...

Grande Eto'o! Thank you for everything!

Keep smiling and stay happy...come back to us...we will be waiting :proud: :proud: :proud: :proud: :proud:

Fuck I'll miss him... What a professional he was with us. WORLD CLASS player forever.

To sacrifice his position to play wide nearly for an entire season just shows you his will to win with inter and this I'll never forget... Grazie!
