Mazzola interview in English:

MAZZOLA: CONTE IS STILL A JUVENTINO

Former Inter legend Sandro Mazzola isn’t convinced by coach Antonio Conte, as he believes the tactician is still a Juventus fan at his core.

The Nerazzurri no longer sit atop the Serie A standings after falling 2-1 to the Bianconeri on Sunday, with Gonzalo Higuain’s late goal resulting in Conte’s first Serie A defeat with his new side.

It’s clear the defeat hasn’t gone over well with Mazzola, who doesn’t feel as though the tactician has fully immersed himself in the Inter cause as of yet.

“We did well to get him from Juventus, but I’m not convinced by him,” he told the program ‘Un Giorno da Pecora’.

“When he talks it seems as though he is still speaking to Juve fans rather than our fans. You are born a Juventino, just as you are born an Interista. It’s tough to change.

“Conte remains a Bianconero. There’s nothing to do about it as it’s something that’s inside you.

“He wants to talk like a Juventino, but then he realizes he is at Inter and speaks like an Interista.

“All he had to do was raise his hands to get a penalty at Juve, but it’s not like that here.”

Mazzola also made it clear who he would rather have between Mauro Icardi and Romelu Lukaku.

“I miss him [Icardi],” he added. “I liked him a lot.

“I like him more than Lukaku.”

Mazzola is a legend and he can say anything he wants. But it's not the bravest thing of all to say this after a loss. He remained silent while we were on top of the table.

He joins the club of unnecessary (sic) people with Moratti leading it. Against the #InterBalls movement of Marotta and Conte.

Damn, imagine thinking back in 2017 that FIF would back Conte and Marotta and oppose Moratti and Mazzola's opinions on the club

As much as I respect big Sandro, he needed to just bite his tongue instead of spewing this shit out. Sandro is and always will be 100% an Interista so back the club and our manager, or at least wait till you have more concrete grounds to question contes actions at Inter.

Everybody in the world already knows Conte is a jubentino at heart but he’s also a professional who very visibly does not like to be defeated and, from what I’ve seen so far, is doing well to get us to where we need to be.

Conte deserves his star at the jube stadium as he is by all accounts a jube legend, but who’s to say he can’t earn a legendary status with us as a manager? He’s already getting shit from jube fans for what he has done, so he’s taking a risk which he hopes will pay off for him, but what he doesn’t need is our legends also teaming up with the jube fans!

@brehme: that’s cause morattis and Sandros public statements are the opposite of supportive for our club.

A club forgiving icardi would have been quite simply a club with no dignity.

If anything, applying the rules to one of the best players shows coherence.

As for conte and marotta, they are at the helm now, working for Inter's best interest.

We lost to a club that by pretty much everyone's opinion simply showed to be better than us, for now.

Yet this was the first time in ages that this has happened. In previous years you'd swear that they are either cheating (multiple examples, from Rizzoli 'killing' an Icardi chance to Pjanic never getting sent off) or lucky through their own or due to our own bad luck. Yet the overall squad distance was much higher.

And Mazzola is correct. Conte does not sound...genuine. He sounds like someone who's out of his place everytime he speaks, he almost trembles in each press conference as if he feels that he shouldn't be there. He just doesn't seem like an inspiring figure which is apparently one of his things. The players may like him for the time being but when shit hits the fan we'll see the real situation.

Nope, they are supportive of the club. Club does not equal management. Management is just that, managing the club. If it is mismanaging the club, then supporting the management means that you aren't being supportive to the club by default. Supporting the club means that you have to have the management in check at all times, not just nod along and pat them in the back.

People who keep thinking that whatever Marotta does is for the good of Inter or whatever else are just deluded. Marotta is doing what he wants to do and he doesn't have to report to Mazzola or Moratti or me or you. He only has to report to the shareholders and probably Antonello. He'll also be judged.

I remember Sabatini having the same reaction but I doubt that Fassone had the same backing from the community here.

@brehme: I sure everyone agrees that blindly following anyone/ anything would be dangerous (at any level) but there’s no proof of mismanagement, and for once in a long time the club seems stable at all levels so their comments seem to go against supporting what feels like a calmer, positive and productive inter for once in a long time.
