Yikes! Castro's price is getting dangerously close to the verboten level for Inter. Better have plan B, C and D on the radar.

We can but it's not the same thing to come from Argentina to Inter vs coming from Argentina to Bologna and then to Inter.

Also crzd conveniently forgot that Ricky was one of the better players of that era. I'd rather have him here right now than Correa tbh

I think it has to do with the huge expectation to huge disappointment, as people were expecting he would be the Argentina Kaka

I don't know who expected that really. We were after Lamela but decided to go for Alvarez for some millions less. Lamela could be more successful than Alvarez and he showed that at Roma. Even though his career went downhill after joining Tottenham.

thing is every great or will be great Argie/BRazilian prospect is already owned by a European team by the time they are 15/16. The league is not what it was 10-15 years ago.

10-15 years ago River Plate or Boca put up fights and sometimes beat the Champions league champion. Even when a mid table Colombian team won the South American Champions league they took Mourinho's Porto to PKs. South America gets raided really really quickly. Once players go past the U20 phase it's pretty much someone who is a late bloomer just super super shitty scouting in a less popular league. .... shit that was 20 years ago.... so maybe South American leagues have been shti for 20 years haha

all I am saying is we are so horny to get the next 19 year old wonder kid from Argentina or Brazil. Italys U20 was 2nd place at the last U20 WC and not 1 of those kids is being given a shot except for Casedei that was the top scorer. If he was from Brazil or Argentina think it would have been a different story. Never even heard the Italian #10s name again after that cup

But sometimes a prospect goes into the wrong club and has a bad or just okay career. Sometimes a player only becomes something more later in his career.

There is some truth about what you are saying, but I have no faith in prospects, because they can put that label on any player that had at least two good games in the argentinian team.

Some guys only hit their stride years later, after bouncing around or finally finding a system that fits. So it’s tough to put too much stock in early hype. Potential doesn’t always translate

I don’t know man…. I feel even if those u20 kids were Colombian another 2nd 3rd tier nation they would have gotten better transfers and more love from euro teams. Italian clubs just think of their youth players as trade bait

Think we had like 3-4 players on that team the LB was great we just sent him to fking switerzland haha
