Now I'm in the uncomfortable position of wanting inter to win every game at all costs (as any fan does) and the belief that a few embarrassing defeats, leading to a Conte sack, would be in our best interest for the long term.
I've done my best to be patient. I wanted Allegri in the summer because I didn't like Conte's behaviour or his tactical rigidness. When it was announced that he would continue with us, I could understand the decision-- maybe both parties aired their differences and the foundation was laid to build a stronger relationship with the club. I wasn't in the room; how would I know what was said? Considering the normal turmoil we perpetually find ourselves in, a bit of continuity seemed pretty enticing, especially coming off of a [mostly] successful campaign.
Now I'm fairly convinced Conte wanted to quit and we were unwilling to meet his terms for a severance payment.

Our situation right now is disgusting. It's not so much the results themselves-- a slow start to the league campaign and 2 defeats to Real could stand under certain circumstances. It's the results combined with the fact that our play is horrid and we have no fucking identity. We are going NO WHERE right now.
We go from having one of the best defenses in the league to conceding 2 every game as a rule. I don't even know what our attacking gameplan is. Last year we would get the ball into the front 2 quickly and everyone had a hand in scoring. This year every just stands around, playing the ball back, eventually find a ball to the wing where a cross is blocked, or we just huff a ball over the top hoping one of our strikers will make an amazing piece of control and save us. It's slow, lethargic, and clueless.
Then we have man-management. The Eriksen debacle has been discussed ad nauseam, but let's put it in context yet again. Roberto fucking Gagliardini is starting ahead of him against Real Madrid. Yes, Eriksen may be in the worst form of his career, but so was Lukaku until the coach gave him blind faith based on the type of player he knows he can be. I personally would have felt a lot better with an Eriksen, Vidal, Barella midfield against Real, even if the latter two also had shitters. That's our most promising midfield and we barely fucking tried it. Situations like this will make important players think twice before coming here. Worse yet, we've botched the Eriksen situation so poorly that he's completely out of the project. He's dead wood to us now. We have the joint highest earner on the team more or less frozen out the squad in less than a year, nice
Not to mention "Conte's guys:" Vidal and Kolarov, who were supposed to bring leadership and experience to our inexperienced squad and have ended up costing us more points than I care to remember.
Brozovic is an empty husk of the player he was under Spalletti.
We splashed 20mil on Sensi without thinking twice, even though he played about 10 games last season.
Sent Godin away without an adequate replacement.
How the fuck do we have 8 midfielders (6 of them being big name players) and Barella is the only one we can count on?
I could go on and on. Whatever squad development "plan" we have right now should be crushed into a ball and thrown out the window along with the person(s) responsible for these sporting decisions.
We need to commit 100% to keeping our best talents that still have the hunger in them to fight for the shirt. The rest should be sold to the highest bidder, taking losses where necessary. At the moment we're paying a metric fuckton of wages to players who aren't pulling their weight and won't be responsible for our long term success.
s'all a bit sadd innit??
