Rodriguez isn't known for being tall, he's as tall as Dambro or Telles. Santon is taller than both the players you mentioned.

First, he was marking Dybala and then suddenly he left Dybala alone allowing Dybala with all the space and time to shoot, luckily it went wide. He also was tracking Khedira inside the box then left Khedira alone which led to Khedira's chance before collision with Handanovic.
