La Gazzetta dello Sport claims Roma have ‘suspended’ director of sport Gianluca Petrachi, a step towards his dismissal, as Morgan De Sanctis and Franco Baldini take control.
Over the last few days, there had been growing tension between Petrachi and President Jim Pallotta, with reports of a furious telephone argument and threats of legal action.
Petrachi was poached from Torino just under a year ago, but the situation never ran particularly smoothly.
According to the latest report from La Gazzetta dello Sport, the club has formally suspended Petrachi, a stepping stone to his imminent dismissal or demotion.
Current team manager De Sanctis is ready to take over, but it’s pointed out he has long worked with former Roma director Franco Baldini.
Baldini has been working as an unofficial adviser to Roma President Pallotta for years, much to the chagrin of others at the club who believe he has too much power and no oversight.
Francesco Totti cited Baldini as one of the main reasons he left the club, both as a player and then as a director.
With De Sanctis becoming director of sport, he’d effectively be a conduit straight to Baldini.
Roma have now officially suspended director of sport Gianluca Petrachi, with CEO Guido Fienga temporarily taking over transfer negotiations. There had been reports in La Gazzetta dello Sport and Sky Sport Italia, but the news was confirmed with a formal statement by the club.
“AS Roma can confirm that it has today suspended Gianluca Petrachi of his duties as sporting director with immediate effect. The coach, and the team, will be guided directly by club CEO, Guido Fienga.”
This was the latest step in the total breakdown of the rapport between Petrachi and President James Pallotta, which exploded into a furious row over the telephone last week. Petrachi was only poached from Torino just under a year ago, himself replacing Monchi who lasted barely 18 months in the role.
It’s suggested this is a step towards Roma trying to fire Petrachi for just cause, meaning they would not have to pay the remaining wages in his contract, which runs to June 2022.
Morgan De Sanctis is widely expected to be promoted to director of sport eventually, as he already works closely with unofficial advisor to Pallotta and former director general of the club, Franco Baldini.
What happened, this seemed to come out of nowhere
There were some rumors a few days ago. Probably just man-child Totti's mood-swing decision.
Didn't Totti become a football agent or something?
Report: Inter win chase for Swiss starlet
By Football Italia staff
Inter have reportedly won the chase for FC Luzern forward Darian Males, beating Valencia and Atalanta at the finish line.
SportItalia claims the Nerazzurri are close to signing the youngster, who has played 16 times in the Swiss Super League this campaign.
The 19-year-old centre-forward can also operate on both sides of the attack and had according to the report been targeted by Atalanta as the long-term successor to Josip Ilicic.
The initial request of €4m plus bonuses has not been met, as Alfredo Pedulla claims Inter have agreed to pay an inferior amount to get the Switzerland Under-19 international.
Males came through the academy at Luzern ahead of this season and has played 22 games in total, scoring twice and contributing four assists.

Negotiations continue between Juventus and Barcelona over a swap of Pjanic and Arthur. In recent hours new developments have emerged: Barcelona's Arthur has demonstrated a conditioned approval for his move to Italy. The answer is not a definitive 'yes' but Juve director Fabio Paratici continues to talk with the Brazilian.
Juventus' contract offer is for €5m per season after taxes, 2.5 times his current wages at Barcelona. Arthur was kept out of the club's last league match, a 0-0 draw to Sevilla, a possible sign to look to. A deal between the clubs on the respective player valuations needs to be reached by 30 June to make it into their balance sheets, otherwise a deal would be off. Pjanic is valued at €70m currently, Arthur at €80m, but Barcelona is asking for a larger sum than €10m to make up the difference. Arthur is both younger than Pjanic and makes less in salary than the Juventus mdfielder, both reasons make up Barcelona's claim. The blaugrana is already in agreement on wages with Pjanic.
I hope it goes through for them. Maybe that would cool them off Tonali.
Yeah I know. The cunts they are, they would try just to fuck us/with us. Just hoping it would cool them off at least a little. If they pull Arthur off, they're still going for Tonali.
He'd be a great signing for us but I'm betting on Barella and I'm pretty sure the club is as well.
If they go for Tonali our backup plan should be Aouar
