Huge credit is due to Percassi for what's been going on at Atalanta these past 14 years. It's not just that they have punched above their weight for much of that time, especially recently, it's more that the club has moved into a higher weight category altogether. With the stadium and the transfer model they have Atalanta are now one of the seven sisters, a remarkable achievement considering when I first started watching Italian football they were a Bari, Lecce sort of yo-yo club.

Even now it's only been 13 years since they were last in Serie B, and when you consider what they have done compared to a similarly sized club like Udinese who have a 30+ year run in the top-flight, it's pretty momentous.

He probably fears Juve have no intention to redeem him and he's just a stop gap (which is probably the case). So he would rather play his chances at Milan or go somewhere else instead of wasting a year of his career.

Now i read Atalanta are trying to hijack the deal.

Yeah to me they look like a mess atm. Too many new players and players leaving they didn't want to let go like Lookman + Koop (and Scamacca out for a long time). They have as heavy schedule as us till next June.

Injuries & key players wanting to leave for big clubs always a headache for a club of Atalanta's size. But look at the way they are handling it, Samardzic (25m), Wesley (20m), Brescianini (13m), Retegui (22m), Sulemana (8m), Zaniolo (4m), & Godfrey (10m) already in, and they are actively pursuing Nico Gonzalez & Danso. They are doing their usual and Gasperini will probably get these new players acclimatised into the team in the next few months

I don't agree with all their buys, and they do make mistakes, but overall their mercato & specially the speed of response is impressive
