He does deserve credit for getting Lazio out of their UCL group this past season. However, he drew the easiest Pot 1 team possible (Zenit).

I think the short-sightedness of him coming here is a good thing. It means the club want someone better in a year or two or someone to get behind a new project. It also means they must be confident of our finances being in a better place after next season.

A 2 year contract would be perfect imo. I'm not exactly excited about next season at the moment but if we are able to keep most of our squad it is possible to win the scudetto again. Whatever, as long as we don't end up fighting for 4th place I guess.

I remember when Conte left Juve and everyone was mad because nobody liked Allegri. But at the end the group was still the same, nothing really changed from that wining team. Inzaghi is not Allegri but he can continue the work from Conte, as long we didn't have to sell too much players and can find a good low cost replcament for the player/s we sell.
Will we win the scudetto again then? To be honest, even with Conte i was not sure we would defend that scudetto. It all will depend on Juve. If they find a way to improve their squad and sell only Ronaldo, then they will have a really good team. With Dybala, Chiesa, maybe a good striker and a decent midifield.
But for the rest, i don't fear other teams. I would be really suprised if were not end Top 2.

To be fair we drew the easiest pot 2 team (one that we beat 5-0 a few months prior) and ended 4th.

Don't have one.
Welcome and good luck.

We got the coach that our ownership more or less deserves right now, and i m not even meaning it necessarily in a bad way, its the way it is.

Zero expectations for the next season, I ll be watching it completely flat, which is in and of itself kinda liberating tbh.

Pretty much, going against Juve's Allegri was always gonna be tough even with Conte. I'm okay with getting Simeone as I've lowered my expectations accordingly.

One issue which might distract him is his family. I've understood his wife is a piece of work and definitely is not going to move to Milano. So what is Simone's plan? I hope I'm wrong.

Lazio have a poor bench, guys. They have some fine players like Alberto, SMS and Immobile but their bench options suck. Season 2019/20 they didn't overachieved. They just had only one game per week and that was main reason for their top 4 finish. Similar to Spalletti's first season here.
Indzaghi for me is a safe bet, considering that Allegri is not available. His 3-5-2 is different to the Conte's but at least it is not require a complete overhaul of the squad. With the expected sale of Lautaro or Lukaku + Hakimi (or somebody else) most probably, I think Marotta's plan is to save a good team for a top 4 finish.

Leave the wife for his new true love Inter. I dont see an issue here.

Gotta say, I am very pleased with this outcome. Considering who else was candidates this is the best and most sensible choice.

Best of luck to Simone, and I hope players accept him in the right way.

One of the few positive I see here is that he might bring a Lazio player or two with him - Caicedo would make a great impact sub, and obviously SMS/Luis Alberto are excellent players.

However, I sincerely doubt Lotito will ever sell to us again after this. We literally robbed him

Oh, also, if we don't keep Oriali then a Cambiasso-type figure is absolutely necessary for this dressing room.

-) Won 3 titles with Lazio.

-) brought them in the 1/8 final of the CL.

-) made them a Top 6 Team

-) showed he can work with lower budget and Inter will have less money.

-) eye for not too expensiv players.

-) uses same system as Conte

Good choice i d say

as I said yesterdy, the good things about Simone:
- 3 cups with Lazio is a massive achievement
- fighting for Scudetto last year, maybe he would do that without pandemic which broke Lazio due to lack of depth
- using same formation as Conte, so we won't buy expensive wingers and bench one of our defenders
- a lot of points gathered in the extra time, he is always proactive on the line
- developed rejects (Immobile, Correa, Luis Alberto) into Serie A stars

We have a solid base with lots of good young players coming through the ranks. Hopefully we can get back to winning ways under Simone starting next year and get through the first stage of CL. I think the players will love him just like they did Conte. Happy with this signing!

I personally don't think they'll love him anywhere near they felt for Conte. Their closeness with Conte is great for when he's here but it's a concern now that he's gone.
