Inzaghi was right in his post-match interview where he said you cannot concede a penalty from a corner kick. That is fucking inexcusable.

Comparisons to Conte are simply unfair. We don't have Lukaku and Lukaku was a key in his football. He was the reference point up front and while Dzeko has been great, he's not like Lukaku. He's not same kind of counter-attack danger and target threath thus opponents don't have to play the same way they had to play when we had Lukaku. I really thought Dzeko could be the target, even better than Lukaku but so far it hasn't looked like that (so I guess that's why we don't do that too much).

Defence line is the same but Conte's defending was stacking the space in front of our defence. It was not about the 1v1 brilliance of these guys or anything. Midfield had to be there always to defend our defence line. :D It was about controlling our own area and our defence line was close to perfect in that. Now we push more players up front because otherwise we cannot get anywhere because Dzeko is not Lukaku and we don't have left mezzala who's as secure with the ball as Eriksen.

edit. Could also add Hakimi was a weapon which allowed our midfield to be more defensive-minded.

100% agreed. But what would you adjust/change? I wouldn't know what to do with this squad on playstation.....Dzeko is too slow and useless as a hold up player, our midfield is short-handed with the headless vecino, G5 and Hakan running around, our wings are not good enough, our CBs are too slow and easily exposed on counters, we don't have a DMF, 90% of our players are mentally weak (case in point the 3rd goal).

What do you think Inzaghi can do to remedy all this?
Play with the lines a bit lower and give a try to 3-4-1-2. I know it was terrible under Conte but we play a lot differently now. Maybe things could be different this time. As things stand, the freestyle approach in midfield with the two CMs roaming in attack and leaving Brozovic exposed isn't working. We need to try something else. We also need to implement Dumfries as he's the only one who can bring speed to this team.

If there's no improvement in defensive aspect, just go full attack with Sanchez behind the two forwards and hope you can outscore opponents.

Yeah Inzaghi definitely needs to figure out something better than this.

If we continue playing like this, our players need to start being more careful with the ball in the offensive zone, including the forwards. Can't turnover the ball this easily we are doing these days. That simply needs to stop. If it looks like there will be a loss of possession, everyone else needs to be ready and anticipate that.

That Felipe Anderson goal we conceded was a fucking amateur hour. You have to play to the whistle, simple as that.

I was thinking double pivot too but would Barella be disciplined to hold his position? I still think the third mid needs to be defensively competent and contribute both in pressing high up the pitch and in the defensive end, Bernardo Silva / gundogan would be perfect

Wise words from the mister (well maybe not the "best recent performance")

“That was our best recent performance, but when a team like ours is a goal up, we have to manage the game better in terms of our final ball and double our lead,” explained Simone Inzaghi after the full-time whistle.

“Unfortunately, they scored their equaliser from a corner that we shouldn’t have conceded. From that point on, the game changed and Lazio got back into the contest. The second goal was a bit strange and we lost our heads, which is something we can’t allow to happen. It’s disappointing. It’s a setback that we didn’t need in terms of our league position, but we’ll take the performance and move on.”

In terms of the incident ahead of Lazio’s second goal when Federico Dimarco was injured on the deck and the tension that ensued, the boss said, “Lautaro Martinez had his back to it and couldn’t have known that Dimarco was still down. He could’ve kicked the ball out, but I’m not going to dwell on that. When a team like Inter is playing in a game like that, we have to get a result. When you face sides like Lazio, you can’t give them a chance to get back into the match.

“We managed the contest particularly well for an hour, but we then let our opponents back into the game and paid the consequences.

“The team produced a good performance. We shouldn’t have conceded that equaliser and even at 2-1 down, we still had time to get back into it.

“It was an intense match with a disappointing end, because I saw the way the team controlled parts of the game as well as we could and should’ve killed it off.

“We should’ve been better with our final pass to make it 2-0. We have two days to analyse the match because a team like ours can’t head back home with a 3-1 defeat after a performance like that,”
concluded the boss.

I do agree with him, the first 60 mins is probably our second best after the Genoa game. The standards are lower but it is what it is.

Spalletti or Pioli level in my book.

Not trust Inzaghi this season.

There is low chance we win Scudetto, because he is clueless in defending tactics.

I got feeling Inzaghi can't handle our stars perfectly just like Conte.

Judge him by the end of season. Football is a game and a lot of what happens on the pitch and the final result is down to the minor details. The team lost 3 of its most important players compared to the last season and we are dealing with injuries and absence of our SA players on certain matches.

I have seen positive signs in the first hour of the game. We didn't give as much space in defence as we did in the previous matches and our individual mistakes were far less as well. I think that questionable penalty decision followed by THAT second goal had a big psychologial effect on the players and that cost us the game. We shouldn't let that happen but this is how it is.

IMO the final 30 minutes was more of a psychological let down than anything else.

I don’t think many, if anyone expect a scudetto this term. Losing one of the best wingbacks, strikers and managers in the world in one friggin window was devastating. Losing Eriksen sucks as well. That being said, this side should still be good enough for a top 4 finish. Which is what we desperately need considering how dire the finances are.

If we miss out on CL, it will not be good. Inzaghi needs to sort this shit out. And quickly.

Considering Perisic's adaptability as SS we might want to try 4 3 2 1

Martinez

Perisic----Correa/Sanchez

Vidal---Brozovic---Barella

Bastoni----Devrij---Skriniar---Darmian

we can shift to 3 5 2 easily during the game if needed. Inzaghi played back 4 in the past so it should be doable.

I actually get why he loves to play Džeko, but he must be in front of the goalkeeper, I mean you don't need Džeko for distribution of the ball in the middle of the pitch, because he doesn't have the legs to run into the box then

The psychological part is the most troubling thing for me. I think that we won some of our games so far because of our mentally under Conte, but looks like this is slowly fading away. Napoli and Milan seem solid enough for top 4. There only two places remaining and I'm not convinced by our display till now that we can make it. It's true that new coach should have a full season before to judge him, but if we finish 5th or 6th, what is the point to even judge him? The failure will be obvious.

Funny he fixes transition problem with Gag then there is problem in left side with Bastoni and Dimarco, first half is a nightmare for Bastoni to deal with Anderson.
There're gap between lines, Inter slowly turn to Lazio, we lose ball then suddenly everything looks disorganised.
Season is still early but I don't see we go anywhere if continue playing like this.

Thank you. I thought i was the only one who saw us suffering on the left side in first half.

In first half we played very good football / passing. Haven't seen much of that under Conte.
Problem is our defense sucks this season.

You need to go above to see my post why our defending sucks. Basically, defenders are getting exposed to their weaknesses.

To be fair, the two biggest threats to the scudetto right now are Spalletti and Pioli. I've been extremely impressed with Spalletti's Napoli. They look every ounce of a potential champion right now. I never felt that way about Milan last year. You always knew they were going to drop off eventually.

I would love to see this team try a 4-3-1-2. I think it might help us a bit both offensively and defensively. Controlling the midfield more while also playing with a true AM could actually hide some of our deficiencies.

Lautaro - Correa
Hakan
Perisic/Vecino/Sensi - Brozo - Barella
Dimarco- Bastoni/De Vrij- Skriniar- Dumfries

That LCM position would be a big question mark. There’s literally 5 players you could shove into that spot, not to mention moving Hakan down if you wanted to put someone like Alexis or Perisic in the AM role. However it think realistically the only way we’re going to get anything out of Hakan worth mentioning is he we play him as an AM.

I think Perisic could actually do well in the LCM position as it would put him in some similar positions on the pitch in offensive phase, and also help solve the width issue you get from a 4-3-1-2. The question would of course be how he would do with possession in midfield or tackling. A fit Sensi would be obvious option but that’s a unicorn these days. Vecino would probably be the most realistic option, or Vidal/Gagliardini.

The formation change accomplishes a few things:

- 3rd dedicated attacker (We don’t create enough no matter what the stats say)
- 4th midfielder means we should have at least 2 ready to help defend in transition. (lack of coverage from midfield is killing us in transition)
- Avoids mismatches like Bastoni against Felipe Anderson or Skriniar against Boga. I know theoretically we are losing a defender but the way we play under Inzaghi we don’t really defend with 5 anyways we end defending with 3. Having 3 slow CBs as that 3 is killing us. It would honestly be better to have fullbacks.

I know people have issues with the 4-3-1-2, however I do not. Juve went to a CL final with it and Real Madrid won 3 CLs with it. I’m not saying that’s our potential, I’m just saying the formation isn’t bad. With all this being said I’m sure Inzaghi will just stick with his tried and trusted 3-5-2 anyways. Just some ideas I been thinking about.
