The way we play reminds me a bit of City in their first year under Guardiola. They played great football and were fun to watch but they came in 3rd and got knocked out in the round of 16. Pep didn’t quite have the right players to suit his philosophy, he was still working remnants of the Mancini & Pellegrini squads. They were fragile on the counter attack and they struggled in a lot of the big matches. The big difference here is Pep was able to go out the following summer and add Ederson, Laporte, Mendy, B. Silva, Walker, and Danilo in one window. In one fucking window.
I give Inzaghi his credit, I think that he’s doing pretty well with what he’s got. He’s got us playing the modern football everyone has been craving despite what a few might say. The issue for us is we can’t throw money at our problems so we are going to have to be smart and patient. I hope we build a real project with Inzaghi over 4-5 years. I’m excited to think of what he can do if we spend a couple summers improving the team instead of dismantling it.
