Carlo Ancelotti has announced his plan of sending some of his players on a vacation throughout the season.

"The players need more rest.

"We are thinking about giving some vacations to the players during the season. One week or more to spend with families. Especially for the players who play with the national teams.

"For example, after Vini plays two games with Brazil, he comes back to Madrid and probably gets rested for one La Liga game. That's how we could do it. We have to give our players more rest."

This could actually benefit Real Madrid in two ways. Firstly, some key players keep their physical freshness, which is especially important now that there are more games during the season; secondly, Carlo would be able to rotate his squad and guarantee every important player enough game time.

Barca look great under Flick so far. I was curious about the appointment given the stint with the German national team.

Flick's Mannschaft stint always looked terrible but one had to see it in the right perspective. Performances under Flick was just a continuation of the decline that had started under Jogi Low. It reflected bad on Flick only because people thought Low was the only problem and squad was great. But Germany's problems were a lot more complex. So i wouldn't hold that stint against Flick.

Of course the fact Nagelsmann turned Germany's fortunes around so fast (combined with Bayern decline ever since his exit) just confirmed what we already knew. He is a top coach.

If Barcelona get past Villarreal next week, I don't see what's stopping them from going into the Clásico with a perfect record. They might be 7+ points ahead and if Madrid don't win that game then the league might already be over.

Barcelona are +7 points through equivalent fixtures compared to last season. They have a +13 goal difference through five games. I didn't expect them to smoke Girona the way they did but here we are. And the 2nd half of their schedule is home-heavy so that also plays to their favor if they enter that part of their schedule working from ahead.

I'm just not sure what can stop them.

They've only scored one first half goal all season, in eight games. Today was better in that respect, and somewhat amusingly their goal difference is twice as good as it was at this point a year ago (admittedly, their schedule was slightly more difficult last year), but yeah there's a lot of work to do there. I felt Stuttgart was criminally unlucky to walk away losers on Tuesday and I don't say that just because I have a bias towards German teams.

If Lamine Yamal is in conversations for being best in the world that says more about the lack of talent in the game today than anything else.

He’s class and probably a future Balon D’or winner. However I think best in the world is a big reach.
