I respect Godin, but at this point he's the worst out of our 3 CBs.

Worst out of our 4 CBs. For this system, Bastoni is better than Godin too.

In the summer, we gotta let Godin go and replace him with someone like Kumbulla. De Vrij is now mature enough to be our leader in the defence and pass his wisdom to the kids.

kumbulla and godin is not replacement, it is addition.
if you play 3 CB formation, you need 5-6 competent CBs to run through the whole season.

You can see why we want kumblla, he play left CB in a 3 man system for verona. he is going to rotate with bastoni.

I can’t stop watching this guy’s goal in the derby. He was in the most uncomfortable position for a good header but the curl he gave to that ball is absolutely mind-blowing. Not a single goalkeeper in the world would’ve saved that.

Yeah, one could go even as far as to call this a lucky goal but I'll just leave it to Stefan's undeniable class.

the question is why does he scores only in derbys. Hope that with Eriksen he has more chances to score now..

I think by September we'll be seeing something like this:
Bastoni (Kumbulla) - De Vrij (Ranocchia) - Skriniar (Izzo/D'Ambrosio).

We do need a better first back-up than Rano for De Vrij though. How's that Vanheusden kid doing, and could he do it in that central back 3 role?

Also, I think it's now beyond clear that Stefan is the best CB in the league this year. Truly, truly world class.

Inter defender Stefan De Vrij says he’s “read at least four books this week” due to being in lockdown, and says PSG star Kylian Mbappe is “very difficult to mark as he’s very fast.”

The Inter defender took part in a video chat as all of Italy is under lock down due to the Coronavirus pandemic. The Dutch defender answered questions from fans on a whole array of topics. De Vrij was asked how does it feel to be coached by Antonio Conte.

“It feels good. I’m learning a lot of things from him, like everyone else. We are happy, and we try to follow him,” said De Vrij.

The defender has formed a solid partnership with Milan Skriniar, so how does he like playing with him?

“Milan is a very strong defender and I learn a lot from him. He is a very good lad, and he’s a pleasure to play with.”

De Vrij revealed he likes to read: “So far, in a week, I’ve read four books. We have a lot of time on our hands and I like to read on the balcony in the afternoon. I like reading spiritual things.”

De Vrij was full of praise for PSG forward Kylian Mbappe.

“There are many players, like Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo, who are hard to mark, but Mbappe is also very difficult because he is so fast.”

The Inter defender then stated that he was a Feyenoord support growing up.

“I always cheered for Feyenoord and then I played for them. My dad passed on my passion for football. He played as a boy and he is one who watches a lot of matches, including mine. He is proud of me.”

De Vrij has scored twice in the Derby della Madonnina, so which goal did he like more?

“I think this year’s one is better due to the type of game that it was; the comeback from 2-0 down to 3-2. It was nice to score the winning goal.”

De Vrij is now a defender, but he didn’t always play in that position.

“I started as a striker, then I moved to midfield. At 16 I became a full back and a central defender by the time I made it into the first team. Football was the first sport I started as a child, but I also did tennis. I had to choose between the two in the end.”

>>> Who else is being embarrassed by the amount Stefan reads in a week? :eek:kay:

As long as its a new contract and not a transfer. Guy is brilliant and massively under rated even still.

Beast at 3 man defence, not a beast in 4 man defence. Based on one season in both. Transfer would mean a huge plusvalenza, but as long as we go with 3 man def, would be lunacy to sell him. And we won't.

New contract incoming in Summer - Raiola wants a piece of it

Stefan De Vrij has changed agent from SEG to Mino Raiola

Inter are to set to offer centre back Stefan de Vrij a new contract as a reward for his stellar form shown over the course of this season according to a report from FCInterNews.it.

de Vrij joined Inter back in the Summer of 2018 on a free transfer on a five year contract after running his contract down at fellow Serie A side Lazio. As per the report, Inter will offer him a new deal this Summer which will see his annual €3.6 million plus bonuses pay packet rise.

de Vrij has been one of Inter’s most consistent performers this season and the 28-year-old has appeared in all barring six of Inter’s 36 matches across all competitions to date this term. In just over 2600 minutes on the field, the former Feyenoord defender, who has made 37 appearances for the Dutch national team, has contributed two goals and also provided four assists for his Nerazzurri teammates.

Or a sale. If Raiola asks for a salary close to the one De Ligt has at Juventus, De Vrij isn't going to sign an extension.

Well if your agent is a money-hungry whore that doesn't turn you automatically into one... Or so I hope :yao:

Stefan seems like a sensible guy at least and not some kind that Raiola could easily sway into rash and risky career choices.

Raiola gets much dirt for squeezing big fees, but truth is he always listens to his clients and not the other way around. He's not going to tell anyone that he should leave his current team, but he's not going to be the team's ally obviously, he's going for every penny he can.

He can tell De Vrij that he can find a 7-10m offer from teams like Liverpool, Man Utd or Barcelona but if De Vrij wants to stay at Inter with slightly less, then it's going to be done and Raiola will happily oblige to his player's demands. He's greedy, but not unreasonable.

Given our current pay structure, De Vrij deserves at least 6.5m from us. We probably will only offer up to 5.5m.

He seems like he's really happy. He was going out and meeting fans and all last summer and with anything he's even more important for us under conte and he's playing to a much higher level. Hopefully he stays. Plusvalenza yes but he's a brilliant centre back entering his prime, if we want to win anything we need players like him
