Inter defender Stefan de Vrij said the award for best defender in Serie A 2019-20 represents ‘a confirmation of the level I reached in Italy last year’.

The former Lazio defender moved to the Nerazzurri on a free transfer in July 2018 and has continued his development at San Siro.

The 28-year-old was awarded for his performances in Serie A last term, as Inter finished second behind Juventus.

“The championship organiser decides based on how you play during the season,” De Vrij told Voetbal Primeur. “It’s a great honour.

“It’s a confirmation of the level I reached in Italy last year.”

De Vrij stressed he will never become a ‘dirty player’ and is even more proud of his achievement after doing ‘everything my way’.

“I have never been dirty,” he added. “That’s why I really like being picked as the best defender in Serie A.

“I did everything my way and that’s what gives me even more pride.”

The reporter said yesterday that this was his first match for the national team in 2 years!! What a disgrace.

It's because everyone in Holland jerks them self of with the thought we have de Ligt and van Dijk but in all honestly de Vrij has been better certainly the last year. But unfortunately we live in a country where nobody cares about the defense.

You can't just say de Vrij's defending at 3CB=2CB formation it makes no fucking sense. And you call him the best defender of Serie A because of that prize he got which was some data of his games that one site has been using? It has nothing to do with his defensive abilities as just as Dybala was not the fucking MVP of Serie A.

I'm not saying it isn't a difference for him to play in 3CB or 2CB formation. The guy grew up in a 2CB formation so it's not like he doesn't know how to play in it. Is he better in a 3CB formation? Yes indeed but that doesn't mean he can't play there and automatically be worse then other defenders. The fact remains that it's a disgrace that this guy played his first match for Holland in 2 years and de Ligt wasn't his usually self last year and that de Vrij should have given a chance to play instead of him.

If he was such a great defender then for sure he could sacrifice his central position and let someone who excel there play there while he could continue be a beast on the left or right. But we both know that's impossible for someone with his caliber. Even the great Godin had problems at the left or right but would be monstrous in a 4 back defense. It's mind blowing how Conte have this formation that only fits ONE fucking centerback of our team, especially last season with Godin and Skriniar.

This formation gives me a lot of emotions. Not emotions that make me happy either. Fucking cunt Conte.
