Why the fuck aren't management doing everything possible to get rid of the 29 year old with one year left on his contract, instead of our most important and loyal pillars? He should absolutely be the first name on the list of players that management are willing to get rid of, and instead, according to reports, his name on the outgoing list is after Basto, Skriniar and even fucking Dimarco.
Even something like 15 - 20 million would go a long way to solving this conundrum of a transfer window, AT LEAST giving us just a tiny bit of breathing room. I for one second don't believe that there wouldn't be any sort of interest for someone like him.

If player doesn't want to move, his agent isn't looking around too eagerly which makes it immediately harder. For the management, it's a crap shoot anyway since they would rather have the player's will to move SOMEWHERE so they could try some inquiries.

It's called deduction.
When you see numerous transfer reports that Bastoni - a bonafide Inter fan, someone who has recently said that he'd stay here for life easily, already one of the top 15-20 centerbacks in the world, will be for a century - is suddenly almost out of the blue close/sorta close to Spurs or what have you, what other result else than "okay, he's being pushed out of the door by management" can you reasonably come up with?
Do you think Alessandro Bastoni is itching to play for Tottenham Hotspurs - Conte or no Conte - or do you think the safe bet is that this has something to do with Suning being fucked financially and looking to offload the first shiny thing they see to keep their asses afloat?

Contrarily, De Vrij is someone we need to offload - he's almost thirty, has one year left on his contract, has been playing below standard for at least a year now, but he still has a name that would be attractive to, or so you'd think, at least sub-top English clubs. I don't think the drop-off in getting rid of him is very big. I'd get rid of him even if we weren't in bad shape financially. It might even prove to result in an uptick in quality, especially if someone like Bremer comes in instead. This seemed like the logical choice before, and seems like the logical choice now. What's the alternative? Sell Bastoni for a measly 50 millino, then lose De Vrij on a free in a year, uprooting our (great) defense in less than a year? That's bordering on madness.
Hell, I'd even go Bastoni - Skriniar - D'Ambro before considering selling Bastoni.

Which brings me to my point - why are we seeing concerningly few if any reports of De Vrij (and remember; soon to be thirty, last year of contract, worse than he's ever been with us) being on the chopping block? Why Bastoni? Because Suning are clearly pushing for the latter, whilst getting rid of the former would be, at least from a sporting perspective, the better choice.

De Vrij may not be very willing to move, which, if true, seems surprising to me as it seemed like Raiola was pushing hard for that Premier League move. That doesn't mean a club or a sporting director can't try to influence that decision. You can pressure the player, leak things to the press, hell, even put him on the bench - don't act like football transfers are solely decided by where the player at first wants to go or if he's interested in staying. Look at Hakimi - he'd still be here if he had things his way. Look at the reports saying we've told Sensi he has to start lookin for another club. There are possibilities.
If that's the premise - that Marotta just has to lay down and let De Vrij run out his contract, while selling him now is the prudent move... what's he here for? As someone like Uni has said, anyone can sell Bastoni for 50 million. I could. A wooden cutout of Branca stationed on the beaches of Brazil could. We're paying our sporting director big bucks to make the right decisions.
I know he's being dealt a shit-covered hand by Suning, but selling Bastoni is crippling in so many ways.

Time to get moving and send De Vrij packing. Certainly before Bastoni, certainly before Skriniar, certainly before Lautaro.

I said the lack of rumors is probably because it's hard to sell De Vrij, compared to Bastoni who is easy to sell as all big EPL clubs are probably interested in him. Of course there are rumors when there is interest. While De Vrij, who the whole forum thinks is already a washed-up player. Why other clubs would be interested in him?

About De Vrij's will, Raiola was not pushing for EPL move, that was from the club from the beginning. De Vrij wanted a contract extension and it was somewhat promised he gonna get it. But when Raiola visited Inter HQ the last time over year ago, his comment was only "you need to ask the club". We probably turned it around completely, didn't want to extend anymore. De Vrij's first priority was to stay. Why push the transfer now when he can leave for free next summer?

And selling De Vrij isn't gonna solve anything, we need much more than what we can make with De Vrij sale.

Marotta has indeed been dealt a shit hand, if there was no financial restrictions handed by Zhangs, De Vrij would have got his extension last summer already and maybe have played a much better season than what we saw. Hakimi is not a good comparison, there was interest (PSG and Chelsea) and a considerably bigger salary out there. Not sure if De Vrij can get considerably improved salary this summer.

My point is to try to bring different angles to these mercato discussions. Of course I want De Vrij out also, Marotta and co wants him out too, but like I said, you need a buyer to sell.

I’m ‘venting’ and ‘trying to find a scapegoat’ because I’m pointing out why it’s of the upmost importance to not get rid of Bastoni, and instead try to offload De Vrij?

I never claimed selling De Vrij would solve our financial problems.

If your stance is ‘Marotta can’t do anything and he is absolutely forced to sell Bastoni’, be my guest. I don’t know why you see fit to think that’s a much more original and clearheaded opinion or a particularly more interesting insight, however.

Selling Bastoni or De Vrij are not mutually exclusive. Selling Bastoni is the one which makes us big money while selling De Vrij is the one which won't do it.

I have never said Marotta can't do anything and he's absolutely forced to sell bla bla but of course you exaggerate your interpretation of my writing. I just tried to bring the perspective of this "hard to sell" issue. Why it is hard to sell, why there are no rumors of De Vrij. There are surely other reasons than Marotta being lazy or shit or whatever.
