Hoping he ups the ante. Everytime I see him play for the Netherlands he is still great.

Totally out of position for rube's first goal. I am fully aware he just returned from covering our left side, but a CCB who acts as a backline commander should come up with a solution e.g. a better command of the defence or running back more quickly.

I really loved the guy, but his best days are behind him. We can’t rely on him anymore. And he shouldn’t start over Acerbi. Problem is Acerbi isn’t at his youngest anymore either. We really need a new ccb.

I'm going to say that De Vrij was not the main culprit in Juve's first goal but Zielinski and even in the second, there was Zielinski doing a big mistake.

1st goal: Yes, De Vrij is pressuring quite far on the left flank, but that is not some big mistake (or not even a mistake at all). We play in a way that other players backs up (or should) when players go "out of position" (in quotes because our game is actually about being "positionless"). And it wasn't like CF was free because De Vrij was missing. It was McKennie who was free and Zielinski should have marked him. Or even Bastoni since Pavard had Vlahovic.

2nd goal: Yes, De Vrij could have anticipated that differently where the pass would end up. But before they entered the final "defensive" positions, De Vrij looked up that okay I have two guys behind me, maybe thinking they'll handle stuff behind me with Sommer (that lane between him and the goal line). It was too late for De Vrij to react that Bastoni would cover the cutback pass. To me Zielinski should have marked Weah better since Weah was in front of him the whole time and he didn't react Weah's movement at all when Weah did his brief run forward to the final scoring position. I think that play was a learning lesson for Zielinski that you cannot quasi-defend like that in this team. Maybe you have done that at Napoli and at Poland NT but at Inter everyone needs to defend properly.

I can see why the club is not considering giving 32 years old De Vrij an extension but instead extended 36 years old Acerbi.

His market value also reflects his decline: was €40M in 2018 when Inter signed him and his value now dropped to only 7M.

It's not like anyone would actually pay anything to Inter to get De Vrij or Acerbi in a scenario they would have contract term left. The market value is basically zero at this point for both.

That is because to get them to other clubs, they would want to go to other club and thus they wouldn't extend with Inter so they'd go to that other club as free agent next summer. Thus, market value is zero.

Still had trouble with covering more space than he usually does, let’s see if he can grow with the role

Hence I posted on his thread, he hasn’t covered defensively more space like that before, at neither Napoli or national team, there’s someone like Lobotka/Anguissa or Romanczik/Piotrowski.

It seems to be fine with sitting back teams but if it’s directly attack, exploiting open space and stretching out like what Juve did, it’s serious trouble.

He was there as the first guy to narrow the angles, Zielinski should do something but he is doing absolutely nothing (apart from ball watching) behind Weah while seeing him all the time.

I think the point is fairly moot at this point. Barella has proven to be the best replacement for Hakan and I assume he'll keep that role if Hakan is out. Zielinski can probably cover the role well enough vs bottom tier sides who wont have a ton of possession. But in that case you can just play Asllani.

Dude was solid against Arsenal, but tbh I do want to see Acerbi against Lukaku. Just seems like a better fit.

Except the Rube game, he has been great so far. Doesn't look like a finished player at all.

Acerbi would be more reliable in big games though.
