Yeah I think these guys haven't been injured too often so it's just a bad luck. Limited resources so you gotta do these decisions.

May be the biggest downgrade is Skriniar to D'Ambrosio in defence and we used that swap once these season already, against Empoli. I'm not TOO worried about Ranocchia replacing De Vrij, we just need to protect our defence a bit better.

I have full confidence in Ranocchia managing de Vrij's position.
Not against Osimhen. He'll get eaten alive on pace alone.

However, the same could be pretty much be said about De Vrij at this moment.
We'll have to utilize a very deep sitting backline against Napoli no matter who plays anyway. Maybe Skriniar in the middle/D'Ambro on the right is preferable.

Maybe, if concerned about Frog, play Bastoni in the middle (if he recovers from injury ) with Dimarco in Bastoni 's slot. Or play a back four.

Bastoni is not really capable in the middle.

I'd go Bastoni-Skriniar-D'Ambrosio if there are trust issues with Ranocchia. There shouldn't be any imo, but we all know it may just happen.

Exactly, De Vrij was never gonna win Osimhen with speed. We just gonna need to play solid defensive game and not give space to their attack. Rano can do it.

Hence why I said he can manage de Vrij's position. I never said he would do it better than de Vrij.

Yup. No point in getting overly cute here. There should only be two realistic options.

Not the best defender but he's very important for the way we play. I'm curious how we look without him now (not so curious to see us destroyed)

For what it's worth, de Vrij is the only defender we have a natural replacement for. D'Ambrosio and Kolarov are horrible as reserve CBs. At least Ranocchia can step in and do the job.

D'Ambrosio isn't that bad as RCB in a 3 man defence. He is a good soldier, and that does seem like his best position. Obviously he is not even close to as good as Skriniar, but he is a decent back up.

Inter have asked for more patience before they make their offer to extend the contract of defender Stefan de Vrij

This according to Italian news outlet FCInterNews, who report that the Nerazzurri met with the Dutchman’s agent Mino Raiola where they reiterated their desire to secure the player’s future but also made clear that they must balance his renewal with other matters financially.

De Vrij’s current deal is set to expire at the end of June 2023, and the club have been working for some time on a new deal that would see him stay on until the summer of 2025, with a wage increase to €4.5 million net per season.

The 29-year-old is reportedly happy to commit his future despite interest from a number of major European clubs, especially given the positive relationship that he enjoys with former Lazio coach Simone Inzaghi.

Raiola met with the club while he was in Italy, and the parties clarified the situation which is that the Nerazzurri are aiming to renew but that there are some other matters that must be attended to first.

The contract situation of Marcelo Brozovic remains a priority, given that the Croat’s current deal is set to run out at the end of June 2022, and Milan Skriniar is also on the waiting list for a new contract.

Given the financial situation at the club, it is not easy to continually hand out new deals which include salary increases, and so the club will wait until they are sure that they can balance de Vrij’s extension with other financial matters.

This was communicated to Raiola during the meeting between the parties, as was the continued desire of the club to keep de Vrij for the future past the end of his current contract.

I think we are currently confident with De Vrij wishing to stay at the club and will only offer him an extension in 2022 - as late as possible (to keep current expenses low for the club) while not risking giving Raiola too much power in negotiations.

Can't see much difference in our defense with him out.

I can, his passing is better than Frogs and overall his tackling is so effortless. Frog is doing good, but I'm getting antsy without De Vrij.

de Vrij has been bad, doing several mistakes per game consistently. I know it's rather a temporary drop of form and would love to see him back on pitch asap. However, you are underestimating Rano's passing. He has some decent passing ability from deep, had been doing it many times.
