30.. Not cheap if it comes to that, but then again, it's not mandatory redemption but optional. still decent transfer IMO, he can surprise lots of people. He succeeds, he gets redeemed, he doesn't, he goes back to Sass. AND we spend only 5 mils of THIS years budget on him.

It was expected tho. I was hoping for 5 +20. Milan were about to sign him for 22-23 as reported, plus bunch of kids on loan. You can't get that with loan + option formula, it wont work for the other team. So all in all, decent transfer without selling kids to Sass.

You guys make it sound like this is a new magical formula.

Let me bring some news to you, we have been using this formula for years.

I am definitely not going to be surprised by the mechanics of loan with option to buy.

The loan is basically free since it's being counteracted by the price of the players going the other way.

It's a good deal for the books and if he's a good regista 25 million euros is chump change for a player like that.

So it's 5m€ loan + 25m€ redemption + loan of Gravillon. Then the 5m€ loan is offset by the sale of Sala.

We apparently bought Gravillon from Pescara for €7.5m just 6 months ago so you'd assume that's his value in this deal. That brings the total valuation of Sensi to roughly €35m.

Hm. Not bad but not great either IMO. The sale of Sala gives us that much needed plusvalenza while offsetting the loan fee, and it's not like we were going to play Gravillon in any capacity next season. In this sense, I'm glad we're using these kids to bring down the amount of actual cash we spend.

That said, I think the redemption fee is still too high and I'm a bit disappointed because:

1) there's probably a good chance we have a gentlemen's agreement to redeem him anyway and we'll be locked in to pay that fee

2) depending on the terms of Gravillon's loan, I feel his inclusion should've been valued higher (unless it's just a dry loan?)

3) I think the jury is still out on Sensi. For me, Sensi does not equate to undisputed quality. Sassuolo rotate their midfield a lot but Sensi only played 2/3rds of last season and the previous two seasons before that were completely disjointed with injuries. I guess if Conte and co. believe in his skills then such stats don't matter. But I personally do not see a €35m player when I've watched Sensi. The one and only way the redemption fee will be worth it (which as mentioned, I suspect is an obligation/gentlemen's agreement), is if Sensi greatly exceeds expectations. I expect a tidy and functional midfielder but I personally don't think he will be much more than that.

For Gravillon it's a dry loan. At least that's the counter offer we made.

From Romano so official: Inter has closed the operation Stefano Sensi: agreement with Sassuolo on loan with right of redemption, Gravillon on loan and Final hall in the deal ✔️

(Sorry this is translated from Italian to English)

This is a good deal in the sense that Sensi can take the minutes Vecino/Borja would have taken and the fact that it gives us more leverage in the Barella negotiations...we show them we aren’t desperate for their guy. I don’t think anyone else will even offer €35-€40 mil for him

I actually like Sensi's high redemption fee (25m) at the end of the loan. That way we'd only redeem him if he actually becomes an integral part of the team.

Similarly, Keita had a high redemption fee and we ended up making the right decision not buying him. I mean, he was decent when he played but overall just not worth that high fee. After that goal vs Empoli we might have been tempted to buy him had the fee been lower. So in a way those 30m kept us from making the wrong decision.

Let's wait together  I have a nasty feeling that Sensi will end up being the big one. God forbid.

Is that true though? I've read that there is a gentlemen's agreement in place which makes it an obligation rather than an option for all intents and purposes. Obviously this is a bad thing unless he randomly plays like a god this season.

Does anyone know whether there was a gentlemen's agreement for Politano's "option" or not?

IIRC, there was a gentleman agreement for Politano. These gentlemen agreements are just a way to circumvent FFP. If I’m not mistaken, an obligation would count as an outright purchase in FFP’s eyes but an option to buy would only count like a loan.

Gravillon is not included in this deal.

It's 5m loan fee, we send them Sala for the same amount and there's a 20m clause.

the gentlemans agreement is all FFP avoidance at any rate - obligations you have to throw onto the book as if it was a purchase (so it helps with cashflow, but not FFP compliance)

This loan + option as a gentlemen agreement to buy a player was indeed a method to avoid the SA not the normal FFP. If we are out of SA we could very well sell Sala before 30 June and buy Sensi after 1 July.

it's FFP as well.

If Sensi signs for 35 mil on a 4 year contract, we have to book 8.75 mil a year amoritsation costs onto our balance sheet.

Instead, on a 5mil loan that might convert at 30m, we book 5m costs this year but then 12m a year later
