He needs to play in the big games. Mancini, if you're going to bench someone in the balkan trio then bench Perisic. We need this guy on the pitch ffs. Or just bench Icardi, but he's our captain :work:

This is true, but he's still a striker. Icardi has 4 in 11 games so that's actually not that bad, the media just wants you to think that. Jovetic has generally been fine, although Ljajic has been more productive in the last couple of games.

You are right, this season's stats so far suggest something similar:
1. Icardi has 4 goals and 1 assist in 909 mins = A goal every 227 mins, or a goal/assist every 182 mins.
2. Jovetic has 3 goals & 2 assists in 675 mins = A goal every 225 mins, or a goal/assist every 135 mins.
3. Ljajic has 1 goal and 3 assists in 441 mins = A goal every 441 mins, or a goal/assist every 110 mins.

So even purely looking at stats, Jovetic and Ljajic have been a bit more productive than Icardi so far.

And if you watch the games, you can see that almost all our creativity comes via either Jovetic or Ljajic, while the number of times Icardi touches the ball is very low. Icardi needs to show more movement and desire to find the ball, or he will not suit our new attack. Those days of every Inter player trying to find Icardi in every attacking move are thankfully over.

That said, this is a new attack still finding its feet together. I suspect (and hope) that these stats will improve for all 3 players as the season goes on. All of them are just a couple of goals/assists away from having decent stats.

Jovetic needs to score more because he's still playing as a forward, but as Black Jesus said he gives so much more than goals to our attack. He begins the vast majority of our attacks. We don't have a midfield, and without Jovetic you have a poacher, Biabiany, an aged 34 y/o Palacio, Perisic (whose decision making with the ball is pretty terrible), and Ljajic (had a good game but I doubt his consistency). Other than Ljajic, Jovetic is the only guy that has flair to take defenders on and create chances.

Yeah, but Jovetic is also a bottleneck when it comes to our tempo. He often takes too many touches on the ball, and slows our attack down, making us more predictable. Nothing that can't be fixed, but Mancini has to tell him to pick it up.

Generous Jovetić pays stranger's medical bills

Published: Friday 4 December 2015, 9.43CET

by Aleksandar Radovic from Podgorica

When Milivoje Raičević tore his cruciate ligaments in August he was at a loss.

The injury was bad enough, the stuff of nightmares for any sportsperson. But then there was the question of how exactly the 22-year-old would get the medical care he needed: his club, Budućnost Podgorica, could not afford it.

Then the phone rang … it was another Montenegrin forward, Internazionale's Stevan Jovetić.

"When he heard what had happened and discovered that my club doesn't have enough money to send me to Augsburg following a misdiagnosis in Montenegro, Jovetić called me and offered his help," explains Raičević.

"He arranged for me to meet a doctor who helped him when he had the same injury [in 2010]. Jovetić covered all examination costs and also paid for surgery, which I had a few days ago in Serbia."

It is a heart-warming story, all the more so because until that initial phone call, Jovetić had never spoken to Raičević in his life. No links. Raičević plays for Budućnost; Jovetić, currently on loan from Manchester City, started out at arch-rivals Mladost.

"All I can do is say many, many thanks and promise to Stevan that I will be back next season, scoring goals for him," says Raičević.

I think it's a cool story and I'm happy that the UEFA CL recognizes it even if we aren't in the Champions League.

His contract is an 'obligation to buy' isn't it?

I honestly think that we are better off without him. Spend 9 million out of that 15 million on Ljajic and keep the rest.

He holds the ball too much and loses the ball too often. Not to mention, he is an injury-timebomb. I'm sure we would be able to find a better replacement next summer.

We still look better every time he's on the field. He's been frustrating at times but he's worth the buy out clause without a second thought.

Haha Jovetic for 15 million when we spent 9 on Dodo :)

How that even a argument!!! Look if we end up with another good striker and are able to rotate our strikers even better

Too long have we had 2nd , 3rd striker that way way past sell by date in Milito and Palacio. I am happy to have Jovetic. Was against it originally becuase of his injury history but super glad he is here. We wouldn't be in champions league position or fighting for the league if he wasnt

While he was shit yesterday, it's very tough for him since the midfield can never bring the ball to him. He has to drop deep and get the ball every time. He needs to play with Ljajic. I still think Biabiany is to be be used as an option from the bench. It's not as if Lazio was going to attack so I'm not sure why he was started. By starting him and Perisic together, we literally had a team where nobody could pass the ball. Jovetic was the only player able to link up but he holds onto the ball too much at times. At least if we had Brozovic and Ljajic, we would've been able to circulate the ball better.

IMO Mancini's persistence on using the 4-2-3-1 is to get the best out of Jovetic, and so far that has worked out for no one. Jovetic hasn't looked good since we quit playing 4-3-1-2, except for when he's played as the lone striker without Icardi. He's a striker and not an AM so it's not shocking he looks a bit lost dropping into midfield all the time to be the sole creative source.

His poor form is partly his own fault, as I still think he is still somewhere in the EPL mentally and struggling with the tight spaces. However I think tactically we are misusing him. The main problem is that he's not capable of playing as a winger, at least not in Mancini's mind, and so its either bench Icardi/Jovetic or play this 4-2-3-1/4-4-2 hybrid that leaves us with one less man in the midfield. In order to compensate for that Mancini is trying to play two strong ball winners, but now we have 0 connection between the lines and actually look a lot like that Brazil side that crashed out of the World Cup due to Melo's implosion. That side played Gilberto Silva & Melo as their midfield 2 in order to give balance to 4 attackers, and had the same struggles.

This is the big tactical problem that faces us the 2nd half of this season. We look better with 3 midfielders, but If we play that way we need to choose between Jovetic and Icardi.

There is one system that I think could work wonders with us (I think), and it is the Christmas Tree formation (what a moment to bring it right?).

Let me draw it:
--------------------Handa--------------------
D'Ambro-----Miranda---Murillo------Telles
-------Brozovic---Medel----Kondogbia-----
--------------Ljajic-------Jovetic------------
--------------------Icardi------------------

It is a 4-3-2-1 that can mutate in a 4-3-3. It is not a 4-3-3 because we have all seen how neither Ljajic nor Jovetic are wingers so they always tend to centralize their game (they may receive a lot from the left flank but they always tend to make diagonals).

So I am not sure how this formation works really. I have only read that Carletto's 2007 Milan used this formation (those times I was noob so I don't remember much) with Kaka and Seedorf behind Pippo and let's say it worked (Kaka did all the work tbh).

The problem is that in today's football you need to widen your attack to create havoc because defense systems nowadays are to tight to be penetrated from the center. So maybe this formation could be hard time.

Speaking of formations... isn't there like a thread to talk about the team's tactics?

Yeah the 4-3-2-1 formation is something that's been thrown around a few times here. I don't think Mancini will use it because 1) he really likes Perisic, and 2) we would need good attacking fullbacks to create width. Who knows maybe it could actually work with Telles and Montoya. The width thing in Serie A has never really seemed to be that much of a problem. 4-3-1-2 is a formation that naturally lacks width yet many teams have succeeded with it in Italy.

I know a lot of people were frustrated with the amount of times he called dibs on the ball and kept holding it but for me I love and appreciate the effort he puts in. In his mind with the formation and players we played last night he feels he has the responsibility to open Lazio's defense and create chances, not only is it his mission to do so but more he's the only one capable of doing so, that's how I think he feels.

No matter how I look at it, I lay the blame on Mancini. He (Jojo) should not have to shoulder the burden of carving up the opponent's defense by his lonesome, it will eventually (like we saw last night) lead him to trying way too much and be counter productive to the team.

I would love it if he could play more freely and have more fun, instead of always thinking he has to produce something.

GdS writes that apparently Mancini wanted to change JoJo at the HT but changed his mind and kept him a while longer... Mancini and JoJo then after the game had a heated argument in which Ljajic and Guarin interviened and Guarin said to Jovetic"WTF are you doing, where is your respect for the coach".Also Ljajic when he found out that he won't start the game didn't want to change to the match gear and Mancini noticed this and gave him a "furious" talk, also Icardi and Melo had a heated talk about Melo's game.

and here we go...
