Coronav. attacks the respiratory system, so it's a combination of age + chain-smoking.
Who told you "chain smoking" is the top culprit for dying when you get covid19?!

It's as follows, source is China Centre for Disease Control and Prevention:

Cardiovascular disease - 10.5%
Diabetes - 7.3%
Chronic respiratory disease - 6.3%
High blood pressure - 6%
Cancer - 5.6%
No existing conditions - 0.9%

Some of those are maybe caused by YEARS of smoking, yes, or worsened by smoking but it's not like the virus "targets chain smokers". :yao: You can have a heart or chronic respiratory problems even without smoking a single cigarette your whole life.

And I don't know where you live but smoking isn't really fashionable anymore in Europe as well. The only place in where smoking is still a thing is Eastern Europe, in countries like Bulgaria, Greece, Cyprus, Albania, Turkey etc.

France and Austria are also very heavy smokers. Italy is not far behind.

Basically any coffee consuming culture has high smoking tendencies as well. I don't do neither but everyone I know is is like "you just don't know" when I tell them to just quit smoking. They're like "what I'm gonna do while I drink coffee"? For some reason smokers feel like tobacco is the ketchup for coffee.

Uh, what a bland life you're living there brehme... we already knew that, of course.

Greece is usually topping the charts when it comes to smoking. Good for you you aren't part of that statistic.

And yeah, you clearly can't know what it's like. Nothing to die for, literally and figuratively. I can tell you that much.

I don't think this news was surprising whatsoever- it was definitely already baked in. The country is at an economic standstill, of course people are filing for unemployment.

As long as a loud minority of people in the US keep insisting that this will all be over by July and the economy will immediately be back to normal, you're going to keep seeing this counter-intuitive investing behavior.

Yeah either markets are severly broke ore im fucken retarded a 4% rally on these numbers wtf and as you said the higher end of the consensus that i ve seen was around 2 mio. Also next week is likely going to look worse then this but lets keep on buying the dip.
Also i dont trust any rally where TLT is up as well as the generall market makes no sense.

I d still argue the best case is a W recovery maybe we re just in the upwards slope to crash again next week.

Also as i ve said so many times before the us is the least equipped to handle this and 1200$ one time payment is not gonna keep your spending at normal levels especially is you lost your job and job security is gone anyways.
Also to think that hiring will just jump back once this is contained is delusional the whole travel sector and most restaurants wont be hiring back their original work force before demand is not back this goes for every industry ofcourse.
Same goes for boeing demand for planes is gonna be down for a substantial amount of time id expect at least 2 years they re not gonna hire the same amount of people from the get go as they had during a time where the industry was booming.

Also all these loans will have to be payed back or at least most of ems those loans might mess with earnings for quite some time now that not much for big business but for SMEs it will be a sever earnings hit.

Also i still think it s hilarious how incentives are set right now basically govs saying invest in what you want will make sure it does not go belly up, and to ceos the message is basically fuck crisis management leverage as much as possible take on stupid risks if shit hit s the fan will save you.

What a piece of shit system we have there guys. Every ten years it's the same old story... 2001/2008/2020... It's not the virus, it's the greedy bastards that work in financial institutions, governments and treasuries. They are either incompetent or plain malicious.

Man the system is not that broken it s ti many interests like america has a well working chapter 11 but somehow politicians are afraid if a big company uses it the whole fucking system goes belly up which is non-sense.

If you had a profitable business before covid 19 then covid 19 is not gonna change that on the long run and theres a multitude of people with very deep pockets that would have stepped in and bought most of these companies at the right prices.
I know we cannot let everybody go bankrupt but to just float the market with insane amounts of money that usually dont and wont fix the underlying problem of all those companies having a terrible risk management. But there should be some accountability from ceos and board of directors who overleveraged their companies and now are fucked, it cannot be that we entice such behavior and bail em out everytime.

I mean buffet underperformed markets for some time now but guess what none of his companies would need a bail out not a single one of em, partially cause he s not over leveraged and partially cause he did not buy back stock at overinflated prices but he ll gain very little from running a financially sound company as he was underperforming in the boom and due to fiscal intervention the rest of the market wont have to deal with the consequences of their actions.

And i hate that excuse it s not their fault at least since 2008 everybody knows what a black swan event is and a good risk manager should atleast have his company somewhat prepared but fuck that we re just gonna cry to the state and get bailed out......

I also wanna ad that at least in 2000 and in 08 the human psychology and mainly greed and mental accounting and fomo lead to what happened. Every semi thinking human being could have told you that the mortgage system in the us is gonna break down sooner rather than later if they would have looked at the actual data. But nobody really did or they really did not care cause PROFITS.

Btw these numbers are not even the tip of the iceberg because they haven't reported everything up to date.

That's capitalism... Paranoia, greed, lack of logic. And that's the best system we've come up with as a species

as i understand it in the US you should claim as soon as you're laid off even if its only temporary - just to make sure you get claims in as soon as possible. Quite probably a lot of those guys are on furlough. If so then probably its a big step that doesnt have loads of extra new claims in the short term

markets go through cycles, just like football teams, relationships, and the earth. it doesnt matter if you're communist or capitalist, the economy is collapsing if you have a really bad drought (for example).

We can't control drought but we can control our policies.

I'm somehow expected to have a rainy day (or drought) fund but funnily enough that doesn't apply for large multinational corporations. Fuck that. And yeah, money saved up is money lost in today's economy. If you're one of the few preparing for such a thing you're a loser and you get punished for it by the market, lagging behind your competitors - you should be always growing, taking loans, expanding, in the hopes that shit like that will never happen... Sorry to spoil it to you but it does, roughly every once and a while. And it would be totally fine if it wasn't small businesses and the working class that take the brunt of what usually follows. I couldn't care less if fucking JP Morgan or the likes are in business or not.

I'm no economist or anything but please, the dotcom and the subprime lending crises weren't "cycles" of the market. :yao: This is some criminal shit but I see no one in jail over it, no tightened of regulations or anything... It'll happen over and over again and we'll be the ones taking the brunt, as per usual. Or you think that you are a "capitalist" perhaps? I find it hilarious that people like us, barely getting by, despite our best efforts sincerely think everything is alright as it is. I'm not a "communist" either but every system that operates under the motto of "more, no matter what" is literally cancer.

tbh whether it was subprime or something else, cycles are inevitable. If it wasnt subprime it would have been, i dunno, commodities.

People always hot up for getting ROI and profit, and it ends up in a cyclical thing where you chase it and then you suddenly realise it's not as fool proof as first believed/people on the other side are making easy money and get incentivised to oversell what they've got/etc.

C'est la vie. It's been happening for generations and will continue to do so.

I'll elaborate for you - it's not as popular anymore. Less people smoke. Is it addicting - yes it is, but that doesn't make it automatically a thing everyone does.

It's a gradual process but ever since the 60s tobacco is slowly dying off as a thing most people do. I'm a chain-smoker but I'm a minority, even in a backwards shit country such as Bulgaria. It's clearly observable. Most of my friends quit, younger people aren't interested in doing it and my niece is a testament to that. None of her classmates smoke, this is hard to imagine for me, back in my days half the class were smokers. We're talking as early as 6th grade. Now those little fuckers don't even smoke in high-school!?

My mom quit like ten years ago. That shit is getting more and more expensive, forget about the health risks if you've done it your whole life. And it is much much faster, that process, in Western countries. Things like that, that's what I meant by "fashionable".

Personally for me its a matter of cash. I don't afford smoking
