His performance in Africa Cup of Nations was alot better. He was probably the best midfielder in the tournament togheter with Yaya Touré. Scored some fantastic goals.

Did you guys notice that Branca was not at the presentation? ;) Something tells me he is currently negotiating another deal today.

All I can say is hopefully that Muntari doesn't have a similar career to the former #20. :(

And there he is:

Noticed that too.

On Muntari I hope he has a better Inter career than the former guy to wear number 20.

Very good signing it seems and many people here would have been happy with this signing had Muntari been playing for a big club or had he hailed from from big football playing nations. Anywaz, lets hope that he does well with us.

As for Branca missing from there, Jimmy is damn right there. In the interviews, Branca has said that today should be a decisive day for Quaresma ??:D

Certainly a good addition as he will provide some steel in the middle of the park. He is young and as I mentioned earlier has abundant Serie A experience which always is a BIG plus when it comes purchasing new players.

That said seeing how Branca & Co are more than ever involved in the Quaresma deal I’m rather concerned about how and who we are going to offload before the 31st Aug. Whether negative or positive I want a quick resolution regarding the Quaresma affair as the last thing we want is to end up with 3-4 or possibly 5 excess players whom then we will have to offload cheaply before the deadline.

Anyway welcome to the club!

We always do the buying first and then the selling , at least as far as I remember.

I expect suazo, crespo, pele(loan) and maybe burdisso/rivas to be gone before serie a restarts.

Pretty sure Jose wanted to see the guys in pre season before we got rid of them. Only the surplus players who's contract was over, left us straight away.

THeres plenty of time to get rid of the othersl

Blog: Consolation prize

As Inter announce the signing of Sulley Muntari, James Sugrue is getting more and more confused by some of Serie A's transfer policies.

Before the season has even started I find myself concerned that Jose Mourinho and Massimo Moratti aren't quite reading from the same page at Inter, or if they are then it must be written in a footballing language that I don't understand.

Ghanaian international Sulley Ali Muntari has joined Amantino Mancini as Mourinho's first reinforcements as the Portuguese tactician attempts to mould Roberto Mancini's former charges into his own team. However, it is hard to see the former as anything other than a second choice – they said they'd sign a midfielder so they simply settled for what they could when their first target escaped. The Brazilian winger was an obvious addition for a side that lacks width in the attacking third, especially for a Coach who has often favoured a 4-3-3 system in the past. The same applies to Ricardo Quaresma, who is also on the way if sporting director Marco Branca is to be believed.

But that brings us to what Muntari will add to the side. Yes, he can play on the wing, but is that really what they signed him for? With Mario Balotelli adapting well to a wide role in pre-season and Mancini, Luis Figo and Luis Jimenez all more accustomed to playing on the flank, I would be very surprised if that's where we see him. It looks far more likely that he is the stop-gap after the Nerazzurri's apparent failure to take Frank Lampard to San Siro.

I know what the Chelsea man would have added to the squad. He was supposed to be the attacking playmaker in the midfield that would really link the defence-minded Esteban Cambiasso & Co with the strikers. Muntari, on the other hand, is more of a battering ram. He is effective because of his strength, pace and uncompromisingly direct approach to the game. But that is something the Beneamata already have in abundance. Their engine room already possesses the likes of Cambiasso, Patrick Vieira, Javier Zanetti, Dejan Stankovic and even Pele after a couple of promising performances from the youngster last season.

When he arrived in Milan, Mourinho said he needed three or four signings, yet I can't believe that Muntari was one of the players he had in mind, which begs the question of whose idea was he. The new arrivals this summer at Inter should be the ones that will fill the gaps to change the team from Mancio's tactics to Jose's, but it's hard to think of a system that needed the Ghanaian when they had so many similar players already on the books.

I still have no doubt that Muntari can be a success with the Nerazzurri, but at a cost of over £12m it will be much harder for him to prove he was good value for money. Surely it wouldn't have cost them much more than that to persuade Chelsea to part with Lampard a year earlier than his contract expires? Moratti's latest signing may be a good player, but I for one will need plenty of convincing that he is also a good purchase.

Jesus what a crybaby. Is it so hard to understand that if Lampard isn't available then we need other player to our midfield. And is there other player available on the market similar to Lampard? Probably Mourinho tries Stankovic in that pos. Muntari is just fine purchase, he brings quality to lower positions in midfield.

Muntari celebrates Inter move
Monday 28 July, 2008

Sulley Muntari has been presented as an Inter player and has explained how the Nerazzurri transfer represents “a dream move.”

The Ghanaian international’s signature has been criticised by various sources, who feel that he is a second choice after the failure to land Frank Lampard.

However, Muntari has commanded a fee of around £12.7m and is ready to prove his doubters wrong.

“I would like to thank Inter for the faith they have shown in signing me and allowing me to return to Italy,” the former Udinese man said in his first Press conference.

“I am very happy to be able to work with this club and Jose Mourinho. I played against him once and I saw how they played. We lost 1-0 and Chelsea were very good, so it is a pleasure to have him as Coach.

“In the Premier League they play a different kind of football to the style in Italy, but during the last year I have matured as a player and as a man.

“When I was in Udine I was very young and a little inexperienced – that was why I picked up a few too many cards.

“Now I manage situations on the pitch better. The boss will have no problems with me.”

Muntari had stressed his happiness at Portsmouth, but he couldn’t refuse a switch to San Siro.

“I chose Inter because it is my dream to play for one of the biggest teams,” he said.

“When Inter came in for me I didn’t have to think twice. I wanted to wear this shirt and play for this great team.”

As for his role at Inter, Muntari is ready to let Mourinho make the decisions.

“I am a midfielder and I will be used as the Coach wishes,” the 23-year-old stressed.

“I am ready to do anything I can to help the team. Mourinho has seen me play and he will know what to do with me.

“There are lots of very good midfielders at Inter and I don’t expect to play every game.

“Am I similar to Michael Essien? We are friends, almost brothers. He is a strong player and he has worked a lot with Mourinho.

“We have different qualities though – he’s good on the right and I have a better left foot. But I am excited to see how the new boss will work with me."
