In the last two seasons we have actually seen a few Primavera Players get called up to the first team. Players such as bonazzoli, puscas, gnoukouri, camara, di marco, have all been called up and played a few minutes here and there. I know the last CB who was called up to play for us from our academy was Isac Donkor? I believe he is at Bari now I could be wrong. My question to you guys is: IS there a problem in the level of CB in our academy vs a problem of playing inexperienced players in such a pivotal position?

What I mean by this is are our CB in our academy for the past 2 3 years not been at a serie a level or is the risk of playing them in a first team match just too much vs playing a Fw like Puscas or Bona.

Cbs are much more crucial to have experience. You can risk inexperience up front - strikers can fuck up 90% of the time and still succeed. A defender fucks up 10% of the time (look at ranocchia) and they will be a failure.

CB more so than anywhere on the pitch needs experience and composure

Zouma was a best buy year ago.

I wonder where is Ze Turbo, that guy should get minutes before Manaj IMO

Zouma was also a 30 mil defender. It's not youth that is the issue, its composure and consistency. That's why quite a few defenders now come through at lesser clubs before making the move - look at frog, bonucci, zouma, varane, etc.

Well my argument to that would be caldriola who was able to represent italy youth at so many levels he also played at brescia and Cesena but never got the chance at inter. Look at milan is Ely really that much better than our academy defenders? Is he more talented than donkor? Even bianchetti? I'm not sure if it's talent related or like browha said the position is too crucial for a youngster.

Here is list of current youngsters in the academy for CB position:

Matteo Crosato
Federico Dimarco*
Fabio Della Giovanna
Tommaso Equizi
Nicolò Gazzotti
DF Bright Gyamfi
Ítalo CB
Senna Miangue CB
Răzvan Popa CB

A centerback may need composure and experience to mature, but talent is an altogether different issue. I might be wrong, but from what I know we haven't produced any good prospects at centerback in recent years. browha probably knows best about this.

Ely had 3 really good years in Serie B, Donkor hasn't gotten any gametime outside of our primavera. Big difference. And I don't think not giving chances to loanees is a centerback issue, but an Inter issue. I would have personally given Bianchetti a chance in cup tournaments or something like that.

I agree with everything that has been said but at the end of the day if the young centerback is undeniably talented, then give them a solid partner in a well organized team, 9 or so games, and some patience. They don't need to start every game. Training with the first team is a big learning experience in itself especially for a defender.

I'd say its a little A, a little B.

Bianchetti and Caldirola are the best examples of CBs in recent years since Bonucci. Neither of them have done shit really.

It's also a really hard position to break in to.
