Unfortunately i got addicted to playing Ultimate Team WL, SBCs as well, this game though [FIFA 20] is a complete joke not to mention what EA have become as a company now is another story. I am never touching anything EA related ever again.

Last fifa game I owned was probably 2003.
Got the World Cup 2010 one as well if that counts since it's EA, but it was a gift.

There was real hype in the early 2010s but the game was shit. It helped that Konami couldn't figure out how to develop properly for PS3. And they could never beat EA in game modes.

Being arcade is okay, This Is Football was like that and people enjoyed it. It's just that the FIFA crowd has been convinced that they're playing a football simulation game.

Problem is there is no alternative. It's all about money of the ultimate team. I actually enjoyed ultimate team until they just packed it full of legends to make money from packs. After a few weeks you are playing unstoppable teams.

I actually played in a pro evo tournament in like pro evo 5 or 6. It was a website with a group of people who created a league. Each team was custom and we basically had to pick out our players but we all had a set budget and we couldn't pick the same player as someone else. Was really really good. Now, it's every team is 90+ players on each position

I mean, FIFA 13-17 were somewhat arcadeish too, but at least it was balanced. Nowadays you can juggle the ball 5 times, then volley a rabona into goal from 20 meters out. The player models look ridiculous. The defending is non existent. I mean, there's more open space in FIFA than we had playing D'ambrosio and Kolarov

And Frostbite is an awful engine. Just awful.

Like you said, people act like it's a football simulation. They have all the correct kits (except Piemonte ) and all licenses and shit, but we end up with this crap? Fine, let it be an arcade game, but there needs to be a balance.

This Is Football was enjoyable, but it never took itself seriously. The diving was legendary.

I grew up playing PES on PS2, had FIFA back then too but FIFA was trash. FIFA caught up in PS3, around FIFA 11 and was the better game up until PES 2020 imo. FIFA jumped the shark after FIFA 17 imo. 18-22 have all been awful.

I was tempted to pick up pes but I heard mixed reports. You have to buy last year's game and an extension or something? So it was working out very dear? Anyway, I'd absolutely love pes to make a comeback. They've focused a lot on getting the next gen right by kind of taking last year off so I hope so! Loved pes. But yeah the menus etc of the game look so dated. They really need to improve that. The ui in fifa is so sleek.

Nah I don't think so, I think you just need to buy PES 2021 on it's own. It's called "PES 2021 - Season Update", but that's only because there's no gameplay changes from PES 2020. I think you can get it for like 5 euros on PSN now? Again, I'm almost 100% sure you don't need to buy PES 2020 first and then go for the update, just get the 2021 version and you'll be good.

Yeah I'm looking forward to their next gen version. Hope they don't change the gameplay too much tho, it just needs some fine tuning and it'll be perfect. There are some AI issues and some general clumsiness, but it's a good football simulation.

But yeah, the UI needs a huge overhaul. They could really learn from EA there.

Yes - PES 2021 is a stand-alone game, but is really just 2020 w/ roster updates which is the reason for the weird name and low price. I mean, that's basically the same thing PES and Fifa do every year, this is just the first time one of them has been honest about it. I too am a PES guy at heart, based on the crazy amount of time I put in playing WE/PES back in the day. I remember waiting every year for that Fernando guy to release his japanese to english translation patch every year so I could play Winning Eleven on my modded ps2.

I typically switch off between PES and Fifa each year to keep things somewhat fresh, this year I have Fifa, next year is PES so hopefully their rebuilt next gen game is decent. I don't play any of that ultimate team / card collecting stuff thogh, I usually just play ML / career mode, usually taking over some no-name lower division side.
