It's been five years since I've crossed the borders, I'm starting to miss the airplanes loud engine and the excitement of seeing new landscapes and fine European asses.

I don't. It would ruin my mental image of him as a Mediterranean grandpa Simpson.

I need to get a better camera.

You can get a used camera and a new lens for 450€ and have the same gear that I used in most of those pics, Canon 700D with a wide angle 10-18. It’s not that expensive, if you go for a used lens you might be able to get the combo for 350€. I have this since 2015 and even though it’s not top notch it serves it’s purpose, the price quality is very appealing for an amateur.

I upgraded my camera body last week but mostly because I’ve been thinking about it for a while now and was feeling some limitations on some things I wanted to try, but this gear is more than good enough for most people, myself included.

Just landed in Bologna. Staying here for a week, but we've rented a car so we'll drive around the region.

Any recommendations/tips? We'll spend a couple of days in Bologna itself, but we were also thinking of driving to Parma, Florence, Ravenna, Verona, maybe Venice...

If you go to Florence stop in Siena on the way there.

Edit: I actually think Siena is past Florence? But go there regardless.

in parma i visited the museum of Chinese Art and Ethnography, which is in my opinion very fascinating, if you have any interest in ancient oriental artefacts. venice is not worth the time to get there from bologna, it's really mostly hype, plus they are known for skinning tourists alive there. florence is notoriously a very beautiful city, bur i would also recommend paying a visit to the little gem which is ravenna.

Firenze
Siena
Pisa
Maranello (Ferrari)
Lucca
Pistoia [+Montecatini if you want to catch a break]
Ravenna + San Marino if you have the time perhaps just to see what the fuss is about.
Ferrara [+ Comacchio]
Arezzo is another choice if you end up touring and staying the night in Firenze. Otherwise it seems quite far and not that big of a deal to make you miss the other north/northeast spots.
Similarly, there's San Gimigiano if you're into taking pictures of old stuff.

You can mix and match a lot of these since you're on a road trip.

I wouldn't drive to Venice or Verona. Stick closer to your region, there are many gems there. The Veneto region can be travelled another time and you can combine it with Milano, Padova and the two lakes (Garda and Como) among other places. The mountains there are fascinating, even in spring/summer.

Great coffee shop is Abraxas. Buy spacecake and then go to the RLD. In the middle of that street there's a small pub with some cool actions like 10 Euro for 5 Heinekens(blurgh) or 5 tequilas (yay). For the rest I'd recommend to search for a pub crawl. Amsterdam never disappoints.

Serra da Estrela is the highest mountain range in Continental Portugal, it´s usually where people go to when they want to see some snow because we have a moderate climate and hardly ever see snow during the winter is most districts. The mountain range is part of the Serra da Estrela Natural Park and is a cool place to visit either to make a road trip, hike, ski or take some pictures.

I was wondering if any of our British members have ever visited Hadrian's Wall? I am now looking to follow a walking route in September or early next year, but I am not sure where to start. It is recommended to travel from east to west, so from Newcastle to Carlisle. Is Newcastle worth sitting there for 2 or 3 days or is it better to stay a little longer in another city? How's the weather in late October or February / March? I don't feel like experiencing the famouse English again when I walk around there. ;)

Been there ages ago.

But for your sake, stay around Edinburgh. Newcastle is a shithole.

Expect that it always rains there, if it doesn't act as surprised as everyone else.
