Could do a hell of a lot worse. I'm sure people will meme because Pochettino hasn't won anything other than...did he even win a Ligue 1 title with PSG? I know Lille won in 2020-'21...but he's had teams which have played nice football previously. The problems with US Soccer remain entirely on the foundational levels and unless those get fixed the US has a fixed level that is nowhere near what its supporters want it to be, but I will appreciate them for not just choosing another generic ex-American player or manager thinking "this is the magic sauce this time".

He won Ligue 1 in the following season. But it isn't that important. Level of NT coaching isn't really that high. Just look at the competition. Scaloni, Southgate, Koeman, Roberto Martinez, Deschamps, Spanish coach i don't even remember his name, Rangnick, Tedesco, Dalic, Murat Yakin, Vincenzo Montella. The only top names are Nagelsmann and somewhat Spalletti. And you saw who won the last World Cup and Euro. Guys with no experience at club level.

NT coaching has a lot more to do with man management and finding a system that will get the best out of available players than credentials and winning mentality.

Haha the amount of people asking me if I think the us are favorite now that they have a top coach. I’m like god no you only have 1 good player :)

The amount of people who are like if we sign klop we would win the World Cup conversation I had to squash are laughable

People trash talk Fox News but man where ever they are getting their NT information or that Man U wins every World Cup needs to be shut down

Pochettino, another named coach, guess that's a start. What can he do with the current personnel is an open question.

The players are not good enough for the coach to matter. You could put Pep in charge it won’t matter until you get at least another few players in each area of the field on Pulisic’s level. Tyler Adams is decent but who else is any good? Balogun is supposed to be good but is extremely unproven.

Inappropriate behavior
Americans are a delusional on far too many topics yet football has always been removed from reality in fan discussions

"American football" is literally a different sport. I think most of the Americans on this forum are pretty good about generally not using the word "soccer" but in this specific thread it would be confusing and borderline dishonest. In the context of the United States and when talking to Americans, it's soccer, not football. Football in that context is the sport many of us enjoy watching between September-January.

They’re both football to me as an American who is in love with both sports. With my friends from Europe I say football but everyone else it’s soccer. Glad both are back it makes for great weekends! Or terrible ones when my teams lose.

It's both the best time of the year and the worst time. Completely with you, love both sports and watch them endlessly, but it also means that so much of my free time is tied up on weekends that I have difficulty finding time to do other things I'd love to do in my time away from work. (Short of finding a way to make my sports fandom into a career unto itself anyway.) There's just so much going on and, as much as I love soccer/football, as an American who's been watching the NFL for over 20 years, Sunday afternoons in the fall will always belong to the NFL for me, if Inter's playing at that time then they're just gonna have to wait.

I watch Inter over my Bucs. Honestly I don’t even get that mad when the Bucs lose. I’ve seen 2 Super Bowls in my lifetime and I’m pretty content for now.

Inter on the other hand can put me in a bad mood for half the day.

Not me, loved it when the Bucs lost, cause the late and great Chris Thomas shows were fantastic all week.

what are US, Canada and Mexico going to do about friendlies? Just play each other every month?

See they are playing New Zealand. Will they end up playing U23 teams? Of other countries? I just dont see teams being available nor wanting to see their Youth team get humiliated. Tho would be funny if some Olympic team beats the main 11 of one of the CONCACAF teams :)

Worst part of being a parent is having play dates with random fking kids and the most ackward time of your wife trying to make you friends with the random dad.

Any way today had to do it….. the play date dad was a former US NT player who works for ESPN that is pretty close to my place.

He was a cool guy but I did shit on him for saying Us would beat Colombia :)
