Not liking the 4-2-3-1, the midfield is too narrow, it left tonnes of space on the wings & it failed to protect the defence. Udinese almost ran riot at times, their fuck ups gifted us this one. I would much prefer 4-3-3. Handa & M&M were great once again, as was Icardi, Telles & Llajic were poor, the rest were ok to good.

Our goals weren't lucky, since the finishes were world class in every case, and could have easily been messed up. The chances created for the strikers were lucky, but not the goals themselves.

It is retarded to compare players like this when they played under complete different circumstances. Just take a look on the players Strama and Mazzarri had to deal with and the ones we have today. Do you even imagine that this club would sign players similar to Rocchi, Kuzmanovic and Schelotto with Mancini as the coach? Hell I even still remember the press conference like it was yesterday where Kuz and Schelotto got presented as this were the best players the club could sign.

Thohir opened his wallet for Mancini and it has so far been great for both of them. Had Strama and Mazzarri the same possibilities in terms of spending this amount of cash? Hell no.

I know your post is about Kovacic (and not Mancini), but why do we shy away from giving some credit where its due? Mancini sure has earned it.

This thing about "Thohir opening his wallet for Mancini" or "Mazzarri or Stama not being supported enough" is bullshit. Thohir has been pretty consistent with his approach - if you want to buy, you gotta sell. He only allowed Mancini to spend what we got back from sales - our net spend as per transfermarkt this summer was -1m (i.e. we earned more than what we spent). In the last few years, the only time we have spent way more than what we got from player sales was for Mazzarri when we had a net spend of 46m (2013-14). Also, Mazzarri and Strama arguably started with better players... do you remember the squad Strama had? Sneijder, Coutinho, Milito, Cambiasso, Zanetti, Cassano, Palacio, etc.

So lets give some credit to Mancini (and the management), where he inherited a shit squad from Mazzarri with a loser mentality, and without spending any additional money, transformed it into all these quality players with a winning mentality. Maybe Mancini with his experience is able to influence the transfer strategy more (than Mazzarri/Strama), and maybe his track record helps when he wants to make big changes...

But lets give him credit for what he has done at Inter. Well within the existing budgetary constraints. Mazzarri/Strama don't have the capability for something like this.

Bluenine, I do think Mancini has done a fine job. Where do I write the opposite?

You don't agree with me that he has had more money to deal with than Strama and Mazzari?

That is what I wrote. Money often means you can get better players which Mancini for sure has got to buy for. This has benefitted the whole team compared to the shit teammates Kovacic had to play with for most of the time here. The players you mentioned were either in their later periods of their career or they got skipped away a half year after Kovacic arrived.

I didn't wrote that Mazzari and Strama weren't supported enough. It is a straw man argument from your side.

Mancini deserves respect. I really didn't like him last season but he has turned it all around pretty amazing. However my post you are quoting is rather about the team mates Kovacic had here than the specific coaches.

Edit: Is what transfermarkt says of income and outcome from playersales without including all the obligation to buy options or what?

Edit2: I have just checked it up and yes it does only take into account the loan payments we have made of Jovetic, Ljajic, Telles, Miranda and Montoya. Your argument is not useful then as we have to pay for these players at some point.

Edit3: The numbers:

Miranda - €12.5M
Jovetic - €14M
Ljajic - ?
Telles €8.5M
Montoya - ?

This is €35M in total without including Ljajic and Montoya. These numbers are not mentioned on transfermarkt. I'm too tired to look for this but I don't think Strama and Mazzari had the luxury of spending this much in a single transferwindow. We are probably talking about more than €40M compared to what we sold.

Everyone was great and of course a special bravo for Icardi's comeback. Bench does miracles sometimes.
Handa was the man of the match for me, he saved some balls that could've hurt on 0-1 and 0-2.
Well done Mancini.

I am sorry mate, but you are looking at the numbers all wrong. Mancini hasn't been given a "luxury" to spend, or even a bigger budget than Mazzarri. Quite the opposite.

Mazzarri spent 46m on top of what we earned via sales in 2013-14, and he arguably made our squad worse than what it was. This was largely due to Moratti's (mis)management. I am surprised you haven't realised this already, but Thohir runs a much tighter ship. Mancini has been given a "ZERO" budget so far i.e. make do with what you have. Basically, Mancini can only spend what we earn via sales. No extra budget on top of it so far. We bought players for 88m this summer, and sold players for 89m. This was not a coincidence.

Yes, you talk about money we have committed in the future - our total commitment during Mancini's stint is 5m next summer (Brozovic) and 11m in the summer of 2017 (Miranda). Thats it. Jovetic, Ljajic, Telles & Montoya are not commitments - they are loans with OPTION to buy. Which means that we MAY buy them if they do well and we have the money. The way Thohir is running the show, it looks likely that Mancini will have to EARN this money too, for commitments as well as any options he may exercise - either by selling some players or by qualifying for the CL (though it remains to be seen whether Thohir lets him spend that CL money in full or part).

Which is what makes Mancini's achievement so far very creditable. Its been achieved on a "zero" budget. Unlike Mazzarri, who actually got 46m to spend in 2013-14, on top of what we got from player sales.

Welcome back Wera.

He came here - to Italy - when he was 19 years old and the coach that got him here was fired a few months after which resulted in us getting Mazzari in and a complete change in philosophy. You don't think this will have a bigger impact on a 19 years old kid who just came to Italy than a native Italian player with a lot of experience? My point is that an young foreign player of course will be hit by this. Brozovic would probably had been hit in the same way if it wasn't because the club is in a much more stable condition right now.

I don't think Kovacic cracked under a pressure. Mancini simply didn't trust him enough. I have multiple times in here showed people the numbers of minutes he played for each month in the last half year he played here and it is pretty obvious that Mancini started using him in the last two months of the season mainly because he wanted to make him attract the view of the bigger clubs. Kovacic was clearly not a part of Mancinis plans even through he mostly did fine when he played for him. This is why I think people are judging him not fairly as they tend to label him as "he busted under Mancinis pressure" but what the fuck he never truly got the chance according to the amount of minutes he played.

We played him in several places and the only place he could truly function was his natural position. Not AM, not reg.
The guy has to grow a lot to be worth running a formation for him, and we just cannot afford to wait 3~4 years for him to grow while doing so. We have a goal to reach. I'm sure Mancini's phone calls to our transfer targets wasn't about building a kindergarten for a kid.

Remember how hectic our summer was? Our plan B and plan C worked wonderfully and we are building a new squad, but we did get pushed over by clubs like Juve, and almost got hijacked by likes of milan. Players rejected us like Imbula, and clubs turned us down at the last moment like Samp. Then of course there's clubs like Fio who would fuck us, and players like Guarin and Yuto who refuses to leave. We just couldn't do 'but we have to build 433 for Kova!'. We grabbed whatever we could within Mancini's preferences. There isn't even a set formation yet, and some coaches call us a chameleon. I would rather not question 'but where would kova fit?' on every match lineup.

Kova is a great raw talent, but we have a extreme tight plan. Surely he could have matured on the bench, but RM's offer was just too attractive for a bench player for the club that has to squeeze every penny hoping we become at least somewhat marketable to move forward. If the club was strong enough to get results while waiting on him, or if he could carry us hard enough to be worth building around him, we would have kept him. But as is, CL is worth more than Kova.

..and what if Kova wants to leave us after we wait for him?
RM, Barca and those lots can wait for $$$ youngsters to grow. Not us, not at this state.

Kuzmanovic 2m

Total income: €88.4 million

Total expenditure: Increase €3.3 million

This is what I picked up, though I didn't cross check.
The fee excludes clauses and fees that has been pushed back with loan tricks, (like 8m? for kdog once we reach CL. 2nd year payment for jove and miranda is also missing), and you can add 10m to OUT for the sales of ricky. Add it up and you lose around 15m, or 23m after going to CL. Anyway in terms of book keeping and FFP, we made profit this year.
