Welcome back Wera.
He came here - to Italy - when he was 19 years old and the coach that got him here was fired a few months after which resulted in us getting Mazzari in and a complete change in philosophy. You don't think this will have a bigger impact on a 19 years old kid who just came to Italy than a native Italian player with a lot of experience? My point is that an young foreign player of course will be hit by this. Brozovic would probably had been hit in the same way if it wasn't because the club is in a much more stable condition right now.
I don't think Kovacic cracked under a pressure. Mancini simply didn't trust him enough. I have multiple times in here showed people the numbers of minutes he played for each month in the last half year he played here and it is pretty obvious that Mancini started using him in the last two months of the season mainly because he wanted to make him attract the view of the bigger clubs. Kovacic was clearly not a part of Mancinis plans even through he mostly did fine when he played for him. This is why I think people are judging him not fairly as they tend to label him as "he busted under Mancinis pressure" but what the fuck he never truly got the chance according to the amount of minutes he played.
We played him in several places and the only place he could truly function was his natural position. Not AM, not reg.
The guy has to grow a lot to be worth running a formation for him, and we just cannot afford to wait 3~4 years for him to grow while doing so. We have a goal to reach. I'm sure Mancini's phone calls to our transfer targets wasn't about building a kindergarten for a kid.
Remember how hectic our summer was? Our plan B and plan C worked wonderfully and we are building a new squad, but we did get pushed over by clubs like Juve, and almost got hijacked by likes of milan. Players rejected us like Imbula, and clubs turned us down at the last moment like Samp. Then of course there's clubs like Fio who would fuck us, and players like Guarin and Yuto who refuses to leave. We just couldn't do 'but we have to build 433 for Kova!'. We grabbed whatever we could within Mancini's preferences. There isn't even a set formation yet, and some coaches call us a chameleon. I would rather not question 'but where would kova fit?' on every match lineup.
Kova is a great raw talent, but we have a extreme tight plan. Surely he could have matured on the bench, but RM's offer was just too attractive for a bench player for the club that has to squeeze every penny hoping we become at least somewhat marketable to move forward. If the club was strong enough to get results while waiting on him, or if he could carry us hard enough to be worth building around him, we would have kept him. But as is, CL is worth more than Kova.
..and what if Kova wants to leave us after we wait for him?
RM, Barca and those lots can wait for $$$ youngsters to grow. Not us, not at this state.

This is €35M in total without including Ljajic and Montoya. These numbers are not mentioned on transfermarkt. I'm too tired to look for this but I don't think Strama and Mazzari had the luxury of spending this much in a single transferwindow. We are probably talking about more than €40M compared to what we sold.

This is what I picked up, though I didn't cross check.
The fee excludes clauses and fees that has been pushed back with loan tricks, (like 8m? for kdog once we reach CL. 2nd year payment for jove and miranda is also missing), and you can add 10m to OUT for the sales of ricky. Add it up and you lose around 15m, or 23m after going to CL. Anyway in terms of book keeping and FFP, we made profit this year.
