Having briefly skimmed the official news, most of it seems more or less tolerable, if not necessarily ideal, but counting historical performance into coefficients is absurd.

So 16/32 teams are from 4 leagues ... Good for us, but bullshit for all other leagues. 43 champions from other leagues fighting for 4 starting places.

I kinda approve. It's up to national leagues to do more to make their clubs/leagues more competitive. As far as I know, some local/national leagues are such shithouses of corruption and disorganization, that it's no wonder their clubs are in such bad shape. We think Inter is badly run...

Also, I think overall Europe has waaaaay too many clubs and too many leagues. Less clubs, more regional and one or two big continental competitions would be way better imo It's a trade off, but what you gain would probably be very fierce competition and better football. Some leagues barely have enough talents for 5 or 6 teams imo

Like Kazaan said, it does make sense in a global way. I wonder though, if the top 4 leagues don't get CL playoffs, just top 4 teams straight to the group. What happens to 5th place?

This is an unjust move and lowers the esteem of the tournament for me irrespective of whether it helps us as a club or not.

I blame that certified buffoon Platini for this.He tampered with the tournament and ensured the Ucl qualifiers were segregated into a champions group and a non champions group and hence ensuring clubs from the big 4 miss out on the Ucl.This also ensured some very weak groups.Pre Platini we had some wonderful groups but these days there are way too many lop sided games.Instead of direct qualification we should have gone back to the pre 2009 format of non segregation in the qualifiers and this would have been more equitable for the smaller associations of Uefa whilst in general ensuring most of the teams from the big 4 would have still gotten through.The 4th nation in the coefficient table would still have had 1 less team but this imo is just and Italian teams have not earned this spot.


I am hoping the smaller nations refuse to play ball with this and we bargain back to the Lennart Johannson era format [post 2003].

Ideally we should go back to the 3 tournament format [although I was too young to watch footie in the 90s ] and reinstate the Cup Winners Cup but this will never happen.I wonder if it is possible to have the 3 tournament format with more money going to Cup Winners Cup and Uefa Cup to make clubs agree to it?
