Yea, leave room for more people to cry
I don't like this. It feels like a draw, which is conducted using specialized software, could easily be manipulated or falsified to benefit teams with deeper pockets (Real, City, P$G, Juve)
Its 4 extra games for quite many clubs, since clubs that finish 9-24th plays two play-off matches in february to go through to R16. Considering the quality of serie a clubs, i expect all italian teams (except maybe Bologna) to finish among these.I'm not disappointed about the new format, apart from it adding two extra games. It might make it more interesting when there are 8 different opponents.
Sure it's more about luck, but I don't mind. Its 4 extra games for quite many clubs, since clubs that finish 9-24th plays two play-off matches in february to go through to R16. Considering the quality of serie a clubs, i expect all italian teams (except maybe Bologna) to finish among these.
There will be more interesting matches for sure, as all 1st seeded team will face 2 other 1st seeded teams. However the amount of luck involved with the draw is abit much. Imagine getting both City and Madrid as 1st seed matches. The home/away thing is also a problem. There is somewhat a difference in getting say City in Milano and Leipzig in germany, than City in England and Leipzig in Milano. Teams will likely prefer getting the 'easier' games at home and maximize their points there.
I really dont think so. With 2 more group stage matches, probability of surprises in the top 8 will get lower. 9-16th will be seeded against 17-24th, so while small surprises here can happen, i imagine the majority of 9-16 teams will go through in the play-off.Maybe we can get more variance in the teams in the knockout stages then?
