I say we get 6 points minimum from the first three matches, 6 points minimum from the second three and six points from the last two matches. 18 points, with a good GD should be enough to be in the top 8.

I have a different view. If the big teams win their first four or five matches, they will basically be qualified. What incentive would they have to perform in the last matches? I'm afraid we'll see a lot of meaningless matches in the last rounds. Hope I'll be proven wrong.

Then again, even in the previous format there were a lot of cases when the top two in the group were practically qualified after four rounds.
Even if the big clubs win their first five games, the remaining teams that don't win their games will be desperately fighting for points in the remaining games. So there won’t be any easy games

Will do everything I can to get to the Arsenal game I think. I’ve asked a few people and it seems City away tickets will be next to impossible unless I want to sit in the City end.

Will drag along some Arsenal fan friends because I reckon we smack them.

I think I'll be at the Arsenal game. Flights from Heathrow are ridiculously expensive around those days, but other airports are more reasonable.

I think we are underrating Monaco. Now the order of games doesn't mean as much anymore, because every team has different list of opponents. So even if all our opponents play like shit in other games, we are actually playing for points against everybody. This is going to be a bloodbath, City, Monaco, Leipzig, Leverkusen, Arsenal -> clearly we need to win at least 2 of these games and I'm not so sure atm we have it in us, but I've been wrong before.

Yes, that would be at least 15 points, not sure if that's enough to get into the top 8 and avoid the play-offs. The teams will be very close on points and goal difference could be decisive.
I think we can cope with Arsenal and Monaco at home, especially as it's our last home game, but the two German clubs will be tricky.

15 will put us in the ballpark. Id guess it's kinda like the equivalent of 9 points in the old CL format, where it isn't impossible but isn't necessarily likely.

From my football manager game it looks like never in ten seasons 15 points would have been enough for 8th. Obviously that's just a game and it doesn't take into consideration, eg, the quality drift between top and middle table sides over time, the need to rest players etc - I think there are real world factors that won't just simply simulate imho

I can bet one of this vs Young Boys,Monaco or Arsenal will be draw also.

And yeah,I agree we are underrating Monaco. So far they are 2-1-0 in France (4:1 GD) but only draw and goal happened tomorrow in minute 93 from penalty. They have many good and familiar players to us. Game is in 4+ months who knows what will be then.

Interesting choice, proves Inzaghi won't be relying on the kid in these first months. Which kind of makes sense since he arrived so late. Maybe Buchanan recovery is going well and Inzaghi thinks he rather tries to survive with one less player for the first 2-3 months in CL so that he can have the ready player for the last 2-3 months of the league phase since it's running all the way to January now. CL list can be change only after the January window.

That's a good sign of trust on Buchanan
I have never understood properly how come he was only used as a left winger with us and it drives me mad how no journalist actually asked him about that

Or it's a sign from Inzaghi to Oaktree. That they can't force him to use a player.

Buchanan gives a new dimension to the our flank game on the left by providing the ability to cut inside.

And there are now news that Buchanan would be ready at the start of October already, which would make him getting included to the CL list even more sense.
