If teams advance to group stage of CL, they will get 4 points, if they lose and fall to the EL group stage, they only get 2 points. This is a huge factor in overtaking England. Roma needs to get into CL.

I have updated the first post. I gave the EL Group Stage contenders 2 points because that is the minimum amount you can get. Remember these are not bonus points, so if you win a group stage game, you stay on 2 points and then add more points as you play the other matches (2 for a win, 1 for a draw). The 2 points now is just an absolute minimum given to teams in the group stage so if you lose all 6 group stage matches, you are still awarded 2 points.

This is different than Champions League which is why it was important for Roma to get in. The 4 points awarded for reaching the group stage of CL ARE bonus points. So you start with those 4 points and add points on based on your results (2 points for a win, 1 for a draw).

So England already started with a 4 point advantage on us because they had an extra team auto-qualify for CL group Stage (Tottenham), but now Man City will easily progress and Roma were eliminated meaning they will have an 8 point advantage at the start of the European group stages. We can gain a little ground back if West Ham go out today because Sassuolo will likely advance, but in my opinion starting -8 is just way too far behind.

Napoli and Juve need to go far and the English clubs in CL have to crash out in the Group Stage just to cover that gap.

We can only hope that Arsenal, Leicester, Hotspurs, Soton and West Ham will score as many defeats as possible. Although, Italy will still need to perform at their best. I fear Fiorentina, Roma and Napoli wouldn't give a shit.

without higuain, napoli is significantly weaker than last year. fiorentina is just shit. and we have a lot of problems. on the other hand, many of the English teams have improved a lot, so i'm afraid it is set to be a massacre for Italy's coefficients. we can only count on English teams' attitude at "suicide".

Even though this is now meaningless because this ranking will be for the spots in the 2018/19 CL which we know will now have 4 Italian teams guaranteed in the group stage.
