Yup lol 2000+ Napoletans got in "illegally" and this of course created more problems, because a makeshift steward barrier was created and hundreds of our season ticket holders had to be moved. But fair play to Napoli, nobody should be able to stop you watching YOUR team play.
Plenty of anti Napoli banners including the 'racist' "Napoli Sewer of Italy", "Napoletani Tuberculosi" and "Ciao Colerosi" referring to the Cholera and Tuberculosis outbreaks in the past in Napoli and plenty of anti Napoli songs.
I just hope now we take a nice number back to Napoli, for what should be an interesting game no doubt.
Isn't it no different from any other country, in the sense it is just heightened regional rivalry. Usually these have some tenuous cultural characteristics along with a predominant economic theme.
Its a racist thing in italy to call south italians with certain names...napolitani suffer especially..
I wouldnt say 'suffer' was the right word mate but I know what you're getting at. They certainly get their fair share of abuse up and down the country, but with the numbers Napoli bring to grounds (when they're bloody allowed to) they can always be relied upon to 'hand out' a few retorts. Who can forget the immortal banner they brought up to the Bentegodi which they unfurled in reply to the countless 'Benvenuti d'Italia' and 'Lavatevi' banners.......'Veronesi - Cavie Dal Laboratorio' (veronese - guinea pigs from the laboratory)........
Thats why most curvas in Italy, despite their hatred for Napoli, often missed their large away following with their bizarre and black partenopei humour.
Racist against Napoletani again. Its not really a skin issue when it comes to Naples its more the fact that its seen as a dirty, crime ridden city. Although like Beka says about their ultras, + enemies, + respect.
napoli taking big numbers to away matches isnt something all that impressive.
they have a HUGE amount of support in Naples, and across italy. its only natural their away following will also be large.
they have the 4th most tifosi in italy.
just on serpico's avartar..
its funny how ultras are the biggest critics of modern football,
and yet they are also the greatest supporters of it on the stands.
the way i see it, you cant have it both ways. your either completely agaisnt every prinicple of modern football (which is in every facet of our game) which means you fuk off the stadium, or you cheer on and be 'ultra' towards your money driven team and players.
Speaking from the perspective of a lot of fans in English football.....you take the money driven crazy wages scenario with a pinch of salt, ie football has overgrown itself and there is little or nothing the average supporter can do about that.
But the things to fight or should be fought is the television overkill, ie. lunchtime kick offs and like last weekend in the Premiership when only one game kicked off at the traditional Saturday 3pm. A disgrace. Any games that kick off at that time should be boycotted..........yes, theres the old chesnut of television pays wages etc etc etc ad nauseum.......but too many games have been shifted to weird and not so wonderful slots which make it both difficult for average fans to get too and also affect the atmosphere in the ground itself.
Also the mass clampdown on sitting at all times in the ground has severely affected the atmosphere in grounds at England. Its a major problem and it usually only the odd away support (ie Man United, Liverpool and Newcastle) who continuosly stand.
