I'm okay with him starting, but not sure if Godin or Skriniar should be covering his ass on the CB end. And definitely Barella has to be next to him from the midfielders and not Sensi.

Hiding him from unnecessary attention and presurre because he is still learning to play collectively in a foreign league.

Lazaro is really showing good signs, reminding a bit of Maicon. He brought the attacking flare which we have been missing in the right flank since some time. But yeah, as mentioned here, right wing should be protected with players like Barella, Skriniar on that side to cover for him.

Biraghi is shit, even Candreva or Lazaro on left can do it better than him.

For the last 10 minutes, we should have just passed every ball to him, and see what he can do.

I don't know how his career at Inter is going to pan out but in terms of his FIF thread he really is the new Cancelo. :D

Well, you should get what you earn. Lazaro has earned the right to play with his last two matches against Bologna and Dortmund.

I'm a bit old school in my "footballing theories" so to speak. I don't easily buy into the hype of all these fast, flashy little dickheads. I like to believe you can tactically negate a lot of your opponents weapons. And I absolutely loathe being beat by something as simple a raw pace.

But it is what it is - sometimes, something as simple as pace can break tactics apart. And watching Hakimi score those goals gave me some fucking traumatic Bale flashbacks, and with that said, obviously it's better to have pace than not have it, and Lazaro has it. I'm not saying we would've won if he'd started, but painful games like today, watching Biraghi vs Hakimi make you yearn for a bit of pure speed - both the physical attribute and the drug.

Look how devastating Hakimi was today simply by being able to quickly attack the right spaces. For the record I'm not dismissing Hakimi as a one-trick pony or a talentless speed-merchant like Biabiany. I'm not trying to downplay his great match. I'm merely pointing out that of all his attributes, it was his pace that made the difference today. He wasn't making amazing dribbles or contributing to super tiki-taka play or even putting in particularly good crosses. But like I said, he attacked the right spaces at the right times with great speed, and that's why he was so effective - good pace and good sense.

I don't know if Lazaro can continue to put in encouraging performances or whether he'll become nuovo-Dalbert. But we need to try grow the asset we have. Every single time he's got the ball in the 120 minutes he's played across Bologna/Dortmund, he's looked legitimately dangerous. There's absolutely no reason Lazaro can't do for us what Hakimi did to us today.

He was also making runs atypical of his position. You don't generally expect a RB to be making diagonal runs from the middle of the field towards the outside edge of the 18-yard box. You expect the opposite, given their usual position as an exterior player. His movements gave us trouble from the very beginning of the game and we never found an answer to them. He's a very good player and will be back at Real soon enough, and that was probably the best game he's ever played.

Anyway, on the topic, I'm also in agreement about Lazaro getting more playing time.

Hakimi is a great attacking fullback but he's weak defensively and he's often exposed in Bundesliga. It's not a coincidence Favre has been playing him as a winger lately. Sadly we didn't have a player to take advantage of his weakness.

Could've started either Lazaro or Candreva on the left but whats done is done. I just want to see more of Lazaro than I do any of our other WB's for the remainder of the season.

As Drago says Hakimi is suspect defensively. But the trade off is that he excels going forward. I'm sick of these "solid" all-rounders we keep buying for the FB/WB position, like Asamoah, Biraghi and D'Ambrosio. There's no facet of their game that they particularly excel at, and it always fucks us and leaves us hanging in crucial moments.

How many times have we seen this trend of someone like D'Ambrosio having a solid run of matches, receiving tons of praise, only to then have a match where his lack of pace, technique, finesse, attacking skills and overall influence, are brutally exposed?

Tonight was the same shit. I was all for Biraghi's signing and I've been very happy with how Asamoah's been playing this season. But games like today mercilessly show their limitations. These kinds of dudes can be useful squad players but I want starters who actually excel at something. Wan-Bissaka for example looks no better than D'Ambrosio going forward, but he seems a very, very strong defensive fullback, and he's got great pace. Dudes like Cancelo or Hakimi might be weaker defensively, but they compensate with a much better attacking game than anyone we have, especially on the left.

Hindsight is always 20/20 and I overestimated our left side too, but it's an area that looks laughable in retrospect. Two mediocre-to-solid guys in Asamoah/Biraghi and one shitter in Dimarco

Lazaro looks like he at least excels in some areas of his game, namely in his attacking. And that is why we should focus on him. He appears to have good pace, some level of technique, a decent cross, a bit of flair and trickery and importantly, he actually tries to take defenders on and make things happen. It's very, very rare for me to make changes in opinion so quickly but I'd sooner experiment with Lazaro on the left than Biraghi.

Lautaro's movement would create a lot of openings for Lazaro to exploit, so playing him on his off-wing might be a pretty good idea. He has the ability to get into the area. Conte has insisted that his job is to provide options for his players in possession, and Lazaro seems like the perfect candidate to follow through on that plan.

For the last 10 minutes, we should have just passed every ball to him, and see what he can do.

Yeah, he had so much space. There was a time brozo looked at him, lazaro looked free but brozo decided to turn to his left then lost the ball, frustrating as fuck, lazaro made something happen every time.
I'm excited to see lazaro play again now actually, fair play to him, especially after the Sassualo game would have been very tough for him but he actually looks a real talent now.
Anyway, we now have two Rwbs, to rotate, two Lwbs and D'ambrosio Mr versatility. He might be the best option on the left side. Otherwise, anybody think he could do a job in midfield. The brozo role but literally just sitting protecting the back line and allow Sensi and barella to attack much more. Could that be an option to rest brozovic? Square pegs in circular holes and all that but we are where we are.
