I liked him. True, his passes were atrocious, but I liked his work rate and attitude. Seemed like a likable guy too. He just needs someone to whom he can pass the ball 10 feet from him and that's that.

He was always underrated at Inter tbh. His passing wasn't that bad. He was totally misused, Strama wanted to make DLP out of him ffs. He had much more passes than the most DMs in big teams, 2x more accurate long passes and around 83% successful passes. Of course he'd have many misplaced passes because he passed way more than he should have.

He should be the motor of the team, a runner who mostly defends and goes forward from time to time, when needed. He is fast, quite strong for his size, excellent 1 on 1 defender. At Inter, he was holding the ball too much, trying to dribble his way, or tried some passes that player with limited passing like him should never try. And that's all on Strama i'm afraid. He wanted to make Gargano a DLP.

I did a little research.

Gargano has pass competition of 82.8%, 1025 out of 1461 passes completed. That made me ask myself, why the fuck is a guy who has zero vision and is a DM, touches the ball that much? He is a DM ffs, he should win the ball and pass it to the nearest midfielder... So, i researched about some other DMs (apart from Busquets), some of the names were Khedira, Javi Garcia, De Rossi, Inler, Javi Martinez, and few others, have at least 1/3 less attempted passes. (percentage wise, all are on +/-2% from Gargano). In all major teams the DMs do not pass, they win the ball and give it to the nearest midfielder/winger... This, only at Inter.

He is missued. Yes he is inconsistent and all, but is very missused. In Napoli he had pass competition of almost 90%. But back there, when he won the ball, he passed it to Hamsik or the wing backs, didn't even attempted to pass the ball forward, unless it was a counter attack.

And that, that im afraid goes on Strama, totally.

gargano gave the ball away/was dispossessed more than any other player in serie a last season, and that's inexcusable for CM/DM/DLP/KFC/whatever. He was shit, end of story. Stop trying to justify the amount of time you wasted trying to defend him, I used to do it too, but we all make mistakes. So just accept the fact that gargano has become a horrible player over the last 2 years and move on so you can save yourself a lot of trouble.

WHY was he dispossessed? You don't become shit player in few months, that's for sure. He was dispossessed because he was holding the ball too much, something he has almost never done that before. Why is that?

It will actually be interesting to compare Gargano's stats last season to Cambiasso's this season. Cambiasso himself has been stalling our play frequently.
