Walter Samuel will soon join the Argentinian national team coaching staff after reaching agreement with its Football Federation. The former Inter defender will become an assistant of interim coach Lionel Scaloni. Congratulations to Il Muro for this new assignment which will begin in September in two friendlies against Guatemala and Colombia.

Walter Samuel sees himself in Inter defender Milan Skriniar, and reveals his biggest regret from his time at Roma.

The two clubs meet at the weekend, so Gazzetta dello Sport spoke to a man who won the Scudetto with both clubs.

“Do I see myself more in Kostas Manolas or Skriniar?” Samuel considered.

“Manolas is better one-on-one. I’ll say Skriniar, he’s good in the air and has accurate long passing. Maybe it’s not the first thing you think of, but so did I.”

Samuel won Serie A with Roma in 2001, but has one big regret from that time.

“I remember when I arrived [Gabriel] Batistuta spoke to me about [Francesco] Totti and he said: ‘you’ll see, we’ll win the Scudetto, he puts the ball wherever you want it, even with his back to it’.

“He was right. I was still young and stupid though, so I skipped the party at Circo Massimo to fly back to Argentina. If I could go back, I wouldn’t leave for a week.”

The defender was asked which of his Giallorossi teammates caused him the most problems.

“[Antonio] Cassano,” Samuel laughed.

“In a training match I closed him down on the line, and I thought to myself: ‘he doesn’t have the space to go anywhere’.

“With one touch - just one - he turns and leaves me for dead, I still don’t understand how. In the dressing room he slaughtered me for it and everyone laughed - I wanted to break everything.”

The Wall decided to take some high-level coaching lessons, improving on his existing UEFA "A" License.

Andrea Pirlo and Luca Toni are among those who have enrolled for their UEFA Pro Licence courses at Coverciano.

The Italian World Cup winners will be joined in the class of 2019-20 by Italy women’s Under-17 Coach Nazzarena Grilli and former Serie A stars Cristian Chivu, Paolo Montero, Thiago Motta and Walter Samuel.

The UEFA Pro Licence is the highest coaching certification available and, upon completion, will allow the likes of Pirlo and Toni to manage Serie A clubs.

The former Juventus midfielder is currently working as a pundit for Sky Sport Italia, while ex-Fiorentina striker was Verona’s sporting director between 2016 and 2017.

The course will start in late September and end next June.

Future is bright :proud:

I can see him and Chivu being successful coaches alongside Cambiasso.

Happy birthday Walter! :proud: my favorite central defender ever since I`m following Inter, most reliable, focused and dedicated.

“Happy Birthday today, ‘The Wall’ Walter Samuel turns 42, the Nerazzurri’s defensive stalwart for almost a decade,”
the club posted.

Rare breed, has my utmost respect.

I still remember how Real Madrid payed €25m to Roma to buy him in 2004, where all the Galacticos were not defending, making Il Muro look bad. So we made a great move to sign him for
€16m only 1 year later.

Samuel to join Mourinho's Roma staff?

After Daniele De Rossi, there are now reports Jose Mourinho could hire another ex-Roma star in his coaching staff, namely Walter Samuel.

Mourinho’s appointment to the Giallorossi for the 2021-22 campaign was a surprise to many and now newspapers are trying to work out if he’ll have former Roma stars in his staff.

De Rossi was already mentioned, while La Repubblica now point to Samuel.

The retired Argentina international defender played for both Roma and Inter. He was with the Giallorossi from 2000-04 and moved to Inter from 2005-14, winning the Treble under Mourinho.

Samuel is currently the assistant manager to Lionel Scaloni in the Argentina national team.

Congrats for winning the WC! Maradonna fucked the team over in 2010, that Argentina team could’ve easily been a winning team in the right hands. Would’ve been great to do it as a player, but he's still part of the winning squad so I'm sure he enjoys the hell out of it!

Since Walter Samuel has joined Argentina in 2019, they have only lost 1 match (against Saudi Arabia).

AFA did a brilliant job getting rid of the ancient staff and giving a chance to the new generation including Lionel Scaloni, Pablo Aimar, Walter Samuel and Roberto Ayala.
