So, I like to collect things. Mainly music (@Spotify) and images (@Tumblr). I've had this playlist for the last two years or so and I've added about ~2k tracks to it. It's super chaotic, since it has everything in it - from lo-fi house to post punk.

I'm beginning to contemplate whether I should create an Instagram profile where I share selected tracks (five each day, for example) via stories, previewing the best 15 seconds off a track and linking to the artist on Spotify. Make it episodic. Brand it... dunno. The idea isn't making money off it, just sharing music I like with people that might be interested in discovering new artists.

That said. I wanted to ask you guys whether this makes any sense for you? Do you enjoy shuffling through the playlist, do you like discovering new music, would you be interested in such a profile? Would Instagram stories be a suitable place for such a thing? Call it "market research". Let me know what you think.

Thanks in advance.

I'm almost 29 years old, I'm super fucking grumpy and peculiar about the music that I like at this point of my life and I can't stand spotify and social media :yao: Meaning that I am not even vaguely representing your target audience... but I will still try to reply because music is such a big part of my life as I've been playing in various forms of bands live non-stop for about 15 years now, which is roughly half of my life.

I've skimmed through the playlist and it's pretty good, I like it, there is a ton of artists on it that I like. The problem is the following:

Instagram is a very visual format first and foremost. People who browse stories all day long want to be grasped by something visually dynamic more so than a static image with music going on. Second, it takes a lot of attention to listen to an entire snippet/watch a story until the end and most people straight up won't do it. Thirdly, most people browse instagram without headphones and people who are generally enthusiastic about discovering and listening to music don't do so on phone speakers.

The playlist you posted is a tad bit too hectic and very few people have that kind of diverse taste, even if they like to tooth their own horn about how they love "all kinds of music". "All kinds of music" people are usually a metalhead who also likes vaporwave 10 hour long compilations on youtube, or someone who is into EDM but also likes generic lofi beat fastfood garbage music. You get the idea, usually people adhere to two separate styles and that's it. So having rnb, indie and crust punk might be off putting to some people, and people tend to dismiss whatever information they are being force-fed at the tiniest amount of resistance. At the same time people who might enjoy more varied styles of music nonetheless prefer to listen to a more streamlined selection, and I'm often guilty of this myself. I mostly listen to music at work so everything has to be pleasant to the average ear and not too weird. Basically - deliberate selection, yes. Random shuffles - no.

What has been exploding lately on youtube are reaction videos. People reacting to new music they are recommended, or people just suggesting music to others. Slap a face behind it, especially if you are even a little bit charismatic/likeable, and that stuff can very easily blow up. With youtube comes the issue of demonetization when using copyrighted content so I won't go into it further because I'm not all that knowledgeable about the finer details of it. Point of the story - for anything related to music youtube is a much more viable platform in my opinion. People, even the attention deficient ones, still like listening to people who are genuinely passionate about things, even if they don't share the interest for the exact same thing.

I don't know if this helped you at all so take it for what it is.

Do it, i am following you on Spotify now.

Instagram just do it if u feel like it or have some friends following you, if u enjoy it do it but if u feel like it a chore or for u to profit from i wouldnt do it.

To be honest my attention span is -50. I kinda like one type of hip hop or electronic music and if its in that vein i listen to it, if its different i have a hard time listening to it. Also i stopped listening to any kind of like Rock , Metal or anything that has like singing or melody to it. I think i skip the most songs in the world on this fucking app.

What would be the goal of doing the idea in the first place, you gotta have a reason for it for it to make sense to u.
