Isn't he like 15-16? I guess it was judged that he was too young to join the first team.

correction they said he was going to be the next Pele for a couple of seasons ago, they have changed their mind, and he is only quick and that's about it.

Yeah, when he first came he was supposed to be the next Pele.

Three-Four years later, he is more like the next Martins.

Javier Zanetti,
He may still develop in to a good player but not a pele, maybe better than martins, he needs to grow a couple more inches.

The first was a genuine compliment.

The latter, an abject insult.

Ciao,
Tim

adu is just starting now to start for his club team? why should he make the national team? Bruce Arena is no Sven Goren-Erikson. anyways. he hasnt gotten enough time to develop his skills. thats the biggest strike against MLS, they are just not starting to learn how to develop young talent. Until now, that development was left to university coaches/teams. however, now with the better american talent leaving the US much sooner than before (see Lee Nguyen at PSV) the MLS is starting to have youth programs on some level. at the same time, because of the hype and payment that was given for Adu, although normal for european leagues, it was completely unheard of in american sports for someone of his age. because of this, those behind DC United wanted to get something for their money immediatly. rushing him onto the fireld before he was ready to compete with people 10 years older than him. after the firts bit of this he was sent to the bench to develop (see previous rant). nowadays he is starting and will get better, but he needs to move to a european team (which he wont do because he wants to stay close to his mother) if he really wants to become the player he can.

[/endrant]

He's started in all 14 games for his club, DC United and is one of the league leaders in assist. Calling him the next Pele or Maradona was always considered a joke.

One of America's most promising youth talents, without a doubt.

Didnt ghana say they would give him a place in their Wc team if he didnt play for the US in the youth championship?

Whatever I dont think he is that special anyway, I have seen a good few times and the hype around him created by the american media is just that hype, nothing more.

He's a f-in kid for god's sake. He has not developed all his skills yet, and most importantly, he hasn't matured yet mentally or physically....

Pulsar, look at f-cking Rooney, Messi, Aguero, Tevez..they were all kids like Freddy at one point but 10 times as talented and can live up to the hype around them.
